Gorgeous Reclaimed Wood Tables Embedded with Glass Rivers

Gorgeous Reclaimed Wood Tables Embedded with Glass Rivers | Furniture | Scoop.it
Greg Klassen is a furniture maker in the Pacific Northwest who finds inspiration in its landscape and translates that into his work. His River Collection is a series of intricately designed and handcrafted tables that feature embedded, blueish-green glass “rivers” running throughout each piece. The naturally uneven edges of the wood and their vivid grains provide the perfect “shore” to mimic bodies of water.
Each of Klassen’s tables showcase gorgeous details within the wood; we see knots, swirling grains, and other imperfections that make his work truly one-of-a-kind. It’s complemented by the specially-cut glass that connects two otherwise separate pieces of wood or fills in its natural holes. Klassen used trees that were sustainably harvested from the banks of the Noonsack river, so with every new table he builds, discarded trees have a new life through functional art.

看似硬梆梆的椅子,卻有形而下的軟墊設計

看似硬梆梆的椅子,卻有形而下的軟墊設計 | Furniture | Scoop.it

Richly Textured Furniture Created by Fusing Aluminum and Natural Wood

Richly Textured Furniture Created by Fusing Aluminum and Natural Wood | Furniture | Scoop.it
Israel-based product designer Hilla Shamia blends clean, modern lines and aluminum with natural materials to create all kinds of incredibly unique pieces of furniture. Through innovative wood casting techniques, the artist has developed interesting ways to combine cast aluminum with wood so that the materials sit in harmony together and function as stylish tables and stools.
To create the pieces, Shamia pours molten aluminum into a mold and directly onto the wooden surface of cypress and eucalyptus tree trunks. The melted metal quickly absorbs into the cracks while the remaining, pooling liquid remains on top and slowly burns through a layer of the wood. Each richly textured piece is as original as each tree found in nature.
When speaking about how the project came to be, Shamia explained, “I kept on thinking about how I find joy in nature. Nature has paths and things get stuck along the way. I wanted to do the same with wood, to take it and do something to it that’s never been done.”…

Stunning Table Layers Wood and Glass to Form Dramatic Ocean Depths

Stunning Table Layers Wood and Glass to Form Dramatic Ocean Depths | Furniture | Scoop.it
Bring some nautical wonder into your home with the Abyss Table, a stunning coffee table that mimics the depths of the ocean with stacked layers of wood and glass. Made by London-based furniture design company Duffy London, the limited-edition piece creates a geological cross-section as mesmerizing as the sea, completing the table as a three-dimensional representation of a geological map. With the considerable price of £5,800 (nearly $10,000), the Abyss Table is as much a work of art as a functional piece of furniture.
Founder Christopher Duffy says, "I was looking into sheets of thick glass at my glass manufacturer’s factory, and noticed how the material darkened as they added more layers—the same way the sea does as it deepens. I wanted to use this effect to replicate a real piece of the earth’s sea bed. Like a mythical power had lifted a perfect rectangle straight from the earth’s crust to use as his personal ornament."
Duffy London is known for creating innovative and quirky…
