Making the move from a DSLR to the Fuji X pro system | Nick Lukey

Making the move from a DSLR to the Fuji X pro system | Nick Lukey | X-Pro 1 by Fuji | Scoop.it

I see lots of questions regarding moving from a DSLR to the Fuji X pro system, whilst I have moved fully into the Fuji camp and have been extremly happy with my choice, many will be somewhat disappointed with the system. The Fuji Xpro 1 is a visual delight, and engineered to a really high standard, the image delivery is incredible, colour accuracy is superb. The recent firmware upgrades are a welcome addition, (these really should have been implemented a long time ago). Just having the ability to quickly change focus area on the thumbpad is joyous. I usually see the grumbles about autofocus speed to be the main gripe, and one that leads folk to stay with the DSLR. However if you persevere and learn how to use the camera, learn how to overcome its focus issues, you will be so pleased with the image results. Once focus is found its totally bang on. I have always loved Fuji for their approach to applying their knowledge gained in film development, and applying this to their digital camera systems. The jpegs are faultless, I looked at raw files and found no real gains to be had by using raw mode, this applies only to my thinking and I am not wishing to create a raw/jpeg debate. It suits my workflow. I remain totally in love with the system, but sometimes get quite infuriated at Fuji seemingly lack of understanding when it comes to camera ergonomics. Why produce a lovely little handgrip, that leaves you no access to the battery/card chamber, go figure!! Generally speaking the niggles I have with this little beauty are forgiven when I see the results from the Xtrans sensor printed as a 40x30 print.....

Mystical Mist, it Takes and it Gives | Robert-Paul Jansen

Mystical Mist, it Takes and it Gives | Robert-Paul Jansen | X-Pro 1 by Fuji | Scoop.it

Mist has always fascinated me. It takes away pieces of the framed subject and replaces it with mystic. It sparks my creativity as a photographer, and that of the audience. Peoples imagination gets cranked up. We have our fair share of mist here in the Netherlands. It is the first thing I hope for when I check the weather before I go out taking photos.

I love wandering through the mist. Just me and my camera, lost in a mystical world. It doesn’t only have a visual impact, but all sounds are silenced as well.

In the mist I have to work harder to get that specific image I want to show to the viewer. The framing and content is not only choosen by me, but is heavily influenced by the circumstances. But .. in the end it’s all worth it.

Hollywood Portraits Remastered ~ With the Fujifilm X-Pro1 | Damien Lovegrove

Hollywood Portraits Remastered ~ With the Fujifilm X-Pro1 | Damien Lovegrove | X-Pro 1 by Fuji | Scoop.it

Here is the result of my summer project. My quest to revitalise the Hollywood look started exactly 5 years ago today back in 2008 with this very popular Prophotonut post. Now I’m glad to say that everyone is at it and the Hollywood look has finally been reborn. The look needs Fresnel lens lights for authenticity. But wow, what style! Five years ago LED Fresnel spotlights weren’t even dreamed of. Now they have largely replaced the fairly recently developed HMI units from Lupolux and Hedler. LED is the future and it’s here right now. Here are 40 of the many Hollywood portraits from my latest sets complete with their exif data, and lighting notes. Enjoy…

Helios 44m-4 58mm f/2 review | Jonas Dyhr Rask

Helios 44m-4 58mm f/2 review | Jonas Dyhr Rask | X-Pro 1 by Fuji | Scoop.it

Todays blogpost is a review of the Helios 44m-4 58mm f/2 lens. The lens was produced in the old Soviet Union by Jupiter among others from 1958 till 1992 and is one of most mass produced lenses in the world! I bought the M42 screwmount version (hence the 44m name), since I have that adapter, but they made it available in many other mounts. The reason for buying this lens was one thing, and one thing only: The swirley bokeh effect! The lens has, what is referred to as optical vignetting, meaning that out of focus “bokeh-balls” becomes more elipsoid as you move away from the center of the image. Also referred to, as “Cat-eye” effect, this phenomenon gives a pronounced feeling that the background “swirls” around the center focus subject. What really surprised me though, was all the other scenarios this lens was good for! The 58mm focuslength on a APS-C sensor turns into a 87mm FOV equivalent which makes it a really nice medium tele lens. For the streets I was VERY surprised at how well it is doing. And it does amazing with black and white photography. The lens is built like a tank! Seriously. METAL and GLASS….the USSR-way!! My copy is very smooth in the focus ring, and the aperture ring has nice clicks. A good condition lens. Because the lens was built in such superfluous numbers they’re CHEAP…. and I mean REALLY cheap! $10 on ebay and you get a good condition lens…. it’s ridiculous, really.....
