Fuji x100s Follow Up Review :: Life Without DSLRs | Zack Arias

Fuji x100s Follow Up Review :: Life Without DSLRs | Zack Arias | Fuji X Series Cameras | Scoop.it

I have been DSLR free for about two months and all is well. During the past two months I’ve been to Cuba, New York (x2), and Arizona. I feel I have hit just about every type, and kind, of job I do and my little Fujis have performed flawlessly. I really relied on them in Arizona where I was shooting for Land Rover. I shot that job with a mix of Fujis and the Phase One. Everything else has been Fuji only. I have no clue how many miles I have put on my Think Tank Airport Security roller bag. I love that bag and it has been everywhere with me for four or five years as my main camera bag. For the past two months I’ve mainly been living out of the Think Tank Airport Essentials backpack. Here’s a fully packed bag that fits under the seat in coach. I never have to worry about it getting gate checked. Packed in there is a Fuji X-Pro1, X-E1, x100s (x2), a Fuji 60, 35, 14, and the new 55-200, Kung Pao (Yongnuo) 560, an external battery pack for the Kung Pao (JJC), Fuji EF-X20 flash, Wein Safe Sync IR transmitter, an OCF Gear 5 meter Canon cord, a Rainbow Imaging intervalometer and remote release controller (for the X-E1), a Fuji M mount adapter, Macbook Air, external drive, and misc other bits and bobs. Strapped to the side is a Phottix 36″ double fold umbrella, and a one foot length of 1/2″ copper pipe with a small swivel adapter. That’s A LOT of gear in a small bag......

Tethered Shooting With The Fuji X-T1 | Arno Jenkins

Tethered Shooting With The Fuji X-T1 | Arno Jenkins | Fuji X Series Cameras | Scoop.it

Last week Fujifilm quietly released the plugin allowing Fuji X-T1 users to shoot tethered to Adobe Lightroom. I have been patiently waiting for this feature since I switched to Fuji from Canon. So was the wait worth it? For me the answer is yes. When I’m in the studio shooting products or portraits viewing the image on a big screen seconds after it’s taken is worth the small price of the software. It speeds up my entire process. I can see if things are in focus, what the lighting truly looks like, and if the client is in the room they can approve the image right then. I’m sure for some people the fact that Fuji is charging $29.00 for this plugin is an immense turnoff, but for me it’s a small price to pay for all the time it saves me.What does this plugin do, and what does it not do? It allows you to click the shutter button from within Lightroom without touching the camera and it transfers the image into Lightroom instantaneously. That’s it. It does not let you control or make any changes to the camera settings. You can apply a “Develop Setting” as the images are imported into Lightroom by selecting which Preset you want to apply, if any......

How I Became a Location Independent Travel Photographer | Fstoppers

How I Became a Location Independent Travel Photographer | Fstoppers | Fuji X Series Cameras | Scoop.it
Naomi and I just celebrated our 40th month of being on the road full-time and living a 100% location independent lifestyle. Looking back, it seems like a lifetime ago when we made that crazy decision to sell nearly everything we owned and adopt a life filled with travel photography. In a way, it really was a lifetime ago because we were completely different people back then living very different lives; two people with a dream of what could be, teeming with optimism, but with no real idea of how it would all work out in the end.

Fujifilm XF 16mm f/1.4 R WR Review | Fstoppers

Fujifilm XF 16mm f/1.4 R WR Review | Fstoppers | Fuji X Series Cameras | Scoop.it
Fujifilm's lineup of fast primes is what sets it apart in the world of mirrorless cameras. Starting with the amazing XF 35mm f/1.4, and following up with the XF 23mm f/1.4 and XF 56mm f/1.2, Fuji have continued to impress with their small, lightweight, fast, sharp primes. The XF 16mm f/1.4 (24mm equivalent field of view on full frame), long talked about, was released in May this year to the excitement of many Fuji shooters. But does it hold up to the other primes in Fuji's lineup?

My experience: The XF55-200mmF3.5-4.8 R LM OIS | Fuji X Series Cameras | Scoop.it
I am doing a lot of landscape and nature photography. So I was thinking
about buying a lens with a bit more zoom. There are only two options at the
moment.

The XF50-140mmF2.8 R LM OIS WR and the XF55-200mmF3.5-4.8 R LM OIS. I tried
both of them and decided to go with the XF55-200mm.

X-T1 / X-T1 Graphite Silver Edition Camera Body Firmware Update Ver.4.00 | Fujifilm Global

X-T1 / X-T1 Graphite Silver Edition Camera Body Firmware Update Ver.4.00 | Fujifilm Global | Fuji X Series Cameras | Scoop.it

The firmware update Ver.4.00 from Ver.3.11 incorporates the following issues:

New AF System(1)Zone and Wide/Tracking modes for effortless capture of moving subjects The AF System complements the fast and accurate 49-single-point autofocus system with new Zone and Wide/Tracking modes, which use 77 autofocus points across a wider area to substantially improve the camera's ability to capture moving subjects.
(2)Improvement of AF accuracy Single-point AF divides the focus area into smaller sections to more accurately determine the distance to the subject for even greater focusing accuracy. The built-in phase detection pixels have the detection range of 0.5EV, an improvement from the previous 2.5EV, delivering phase detection AF performance that enables fast focusing in low-light conditions and on low- contrast subjects.
(3)Eye detection AF The firmware update provides Fujifilm's Eye Detection AF, which automatically detects and focuses on human eyes. The function allows you to easily focus on the eyes even in difficult conditions.
(4)Auto Macro mode The firmware update introduces the Auto Macro function, which automatically switches the camera into the Macro mode while maintaining the conventional AF speed. You no longer have to press the Macro button to initiate a close-up shot. This update eliminates the Macro function assigned to the Macro Button, allowing you to assign a different function to the button. (Just after this update, the function will be assigned to AF mode selection.)
(5)AF improvement in the Movie mode The optimized algorithm delivers a more natural and smooth AF action during movie recording.Improvements(1)Improved Shutter Speed Dial operation When the Shutter Speed Dial is set to T and the Shutter Type to Mechanical + Electronic, you can use the command dial to set a full range of exposure times from 30-1/32000sec. Previously, this was limited to 30-2 seconds. This is particularly useful when shooting in the portrait orientation with the Vertical Battery Grip VG-XT1 attached.
(2)Exposure Compensation control in Manual You can use the Exposure Compensation dial to make exposure adjustments while shooting in the Manual exposure mode with the ISO Auto setting.
(3)Finer lines on the framing grid enhances visibility The lines on the framing grid, which you can choose to display in the Screen Set-Up menu, have been made finer making it easier to view the subject.
(4)Name of Silent mode changed to avoid confusion The Silent Mode has been renamed to "SOUND & FLASH OFF" .Other(1)If you use the "Tethered Shooting Software HS-V5 for Windows®Ver1.1", it is required to be updated.
Tethered Shooting Software HS-V5 for Windows® Ver.1.1a Updater for Windows 8 / 8.1 / 7 SP1

REVIEW: 10 days with the Fujinon XF90mm F2 R LM WR | Jeff Carter

REVIEW: 10 days with the Fujinon XF90mm F2 R LM WR | Jeff Carter | Fuji X Series Cameras | Scoop.it
The latest fast Fujinon prime is the tenth fixed focal length lens in the XF line up and the second after the 16mm f1.4 to be Weather Resistant (WR).  With the equivalent focal length of 137mm in full frame 35mm terms, the 90mm f2 offers extra ‘pulling power’ over the faster 56mm f1.2. This lens is primarily targeted at portrait, wedding and street photographers but I was interested to see if it would be of use in the areas I primarily work - motorsport and landscape. I have recently acquired the superb 50-140mm f2.8, which offers greater flexibility over the primes and covers the 90mm focal length but with the disadvantages of one stop less on the aperture and in a much larger size.  However the 50-140mm does have the addition of an Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) system built in where the 90mm doesn’t......

Fuji X-T1 settings | Damien Lovegrove

Fuji X-T1 settings | Damien Lovegrove | Fuji X Series Cameras | Scoop.it

There are several ways of shooting with digital cameras. With SLRs I used to set up my LCD to mimic a simulated final processed image. This was punchy, vibrant with deep blacks and peaky whites. The image on the back of the camera was very different from that of the real world projected on the focussing screen in the viewfinder. However I have adopted a completely different approach to setting up my viewfinder and LCD with my Fuji X system. I have established the optimum camera jpeg settings to give me a viewfinder image that shows exactly what is recorded in the raw file. The jpegs produced with my settings are somewhat flat or calm and are not always representative of my finished photograph. Anyone who has shot raw video footage will know just how it looks prior to grading. That’s what I like in my stills camera too as it allows me to accurately assess the image exposure while I’m setting shutter speed, ISO and aperture. Here are my settings and why I’ve chosen them........
