Fuji X-Pro-1 back button focus | Paul Samoluk

Fuji X-Pro-1 back button focus | Paul Samoluk | Fuji X-Pro 1 ONLY | Scoop.it

What is back button focus and why should you care?I switched to using the back button (AE-L AF-L) to focus my camera a few months ago and can honestly say i could never go back to the traditional way of auto focusing using your shutter button. It will take a little getting used to at first, but if you stick with it, i can promise you will feel the same way i do. So what is it exactly? In the traditional way of auto focusing your camera, you would half press the shutter, which engages the auto focus system, get the camera to lock focus, and then take the picture by pressing the shutter button all the way down. Ok i am not undermining your intelligence by stating the obvious here, but i wanted to set a baseline for our discussion. With back button focus, you essentially disassociate the function of auto focusing your camera from the function of taking the actual image. You use two buttons instead of one which on the surface may seem quite odd and less efficient but works wonders once you get used to it. Things look even peachier (yes i said peachier) with the X-Pro-1 because the genius minds over at Fuji, know their ergonomics, and placed the buttons in a fantastic place. We will get to that in a minute, first lets continue exploring the idea of back button focus. Here is why you should care about this, and possibly give it a try....

Fuji X-Pro1 it is!

Fuji X-Pro1 it is! | Fuji X-Pro 1 ONLY | Scoop.it

I have gone through lots and lots of shots taken with my cameras and after that process it seems quite clear to me that I am going to take my Fuji X-Pro1 with me to our vacation. Why so?

You really can’t beat the IQ of X-Pro1 and XF 35mm/1.4 combo with my other cameras. You can get nice thin DoF and so pleasing bokeh with that combo. I have always been little bit towards longer focal lengths so the 50 mm equivalent is a good general purpose lens for me.

In the Studio with the Fujifilm X-Pro 1 | Fuji X-Pro 1 ONLY | Scoop.it

So recently I started using a Fujifilm X-Pro 1. This was supposed to be my backup camera. But as I discovered in this studio shoot with Connor Hookway, the canon didn't make it out of the bag (so now its gone!)  Here's a sample of what I got!

My three Fuji X cameras on a photo tour : 10 things I like about them | Harry Fisch

My three Fuji X cameras on a photo tour : 10 things I like about them | Harry Fisch | Fuji X-Pro 1 ONLY | Scoop.it
I organize photo tours and I own three Fuji cameras: the X-100, the X-Pro1 and an EX. I recently purchased a Nikon D-600. I love the Fuji X-Pro1 and my only regret to this day is the fact  that it can’t be the only camera I use in my work. With the Fuji X-Pro1 I won (and then lost) the 2012 National Geographic Photo Contest and ended up as a finalist of the Sony World Photography Awards , besides two Juror Awards of Merit at the Grand Prix de la Découverte 2013. I really cannot speak ill of the camera... Why, after twenty years of staying put, am I selling a Canon 5D, buying three Fujis and then a Nikon? It's been something gradual and from my point of view, something necessary.......

The Fuji X pro 1 meets the Models 1 Curvy Army

The Fuji X pro 1 meets the Models 1 Curvy Army | Fuji X-Pro 1 ONLY | Scoop.it

Recently the Fuji X pro 1 and I have been working with the fantastic girls at Models 1 curve .  As the fuller figure becomes increasingly more popular in the fashion industry with Vogue and Elle frequently using curvier models on their covers, Debenhams finally introducing plus size mannequins and H & M launching their summer plus size campaign it’s no wonder these girls are so popular. It’s only a matter of time before they are  each gracing the billboard of  some major campaign…

Keith Futrell - Buck Hollow Ranch | Matthew Walton

Keith Futrell - Buck Hollow Ranch | Matthew Walton | Fuji X-Pro 1 ONLY | Scoop.it

It's 6:30 am in Pocahontas, AR. The sun isn't scheduled to rise for another 45 minutes. My cousin, Keith Futrell, pulls up in his truck. We load my gear and we're off, headed north toward Warm Springs. Twenty minutes later we arrive at Buck Hollow Ranch. It's still too dark to really see anything, but I already know it's going to be a good day. Keith takes me down to the lake house where we meet Tom Baker, the owner of the ranch. His usual unlit cigar already in his mouth, we have our coffee and wait for the sun to barely crack over the horizon. The three of us pile into his truck to begin driving through the 60 miles of road within Buck Hollow Ranch. Like previous features, my goal is to shed light on an interesting person, place, thing or idea. In this instance, I get to talk about all four. Keith is the ranch manager for BHR. The ranch consists of 2,600 acres of wooded and grassy landscape, nestled in the hills of Northeast Arkansas.......

Fujifilm X - Switch or not To Switch | Matt Brandon

Fujifilm X - Switch or not To Switch | Matt Brandon | Fuji X-Pro 1 ONLY | Scoop.it

I‘ve had many emails and Facebook messages lately asking me if I have switched completely over to the Fujifilm X-series cameras. The Fujifilm X-series for those of you who have been living under a rock or are just not into camera gear, is the mirrorless, small somewhat compact camera system that has a retro rangefinder feel and look about them. They are an amazing group of cameras and are chock full of innovative technology to enhance both the user experience and the final image. The flagship camera for this new system is the X-Pro1 followed closely by the X-E1. Both cameras sport an APS–C size sensor thus giving an image quality of a DSLR.......

.....  I really don’t think there is a going back. I think there is only a going forward. As Fujifilm and others perfect the mirrorless camera the heyday of the DSLR might well be over.  It looks like I am going to have to change my logo.  That digital trekker needs a smaller camera!
