MED DIET EXPO 2015 CALL: TIME TO ACT
A CONTRIBUTION TO THE CHARTER OF MILAN
TOWARDS MORE SUSTAINABLE FOOD SYSTEMS
FOR PRESENT AND FUTURE GENERATIONS
CIHEAM is promoting the Mediterranean Diet through its activities in the field of education, research, networking of decision makers and experts, and technical assistance for the development of agriculture, territories, and food security in the Mediterranean.
In fact, the Mediterranean diet was one of the topics addressed in the meetings of the Ministers of the Member Countries of CIHEAM (Athens 2001, Zaragoza 2008, Istanbul 2010, Malta 2012, Algiers 2014). It was also a central discussion theme in both Euro-Mediterranean Ministerial Conferences on Agriculture (Venice 2003 and Palermo 2014).
CIHEAM seizes the opportunity of international momentum of Expo Milan2015 to launchtheMED DIET EXPO Call (http://goo.gl/2jEJ5Q), to further stimulate the debate in the Mediterranean region and beyond and to move towards more sustainable food systems. The Mediterranean diet is foreseen as a driver for the improvement of the sustainability of food consumption and production in the Mediterranean area. It is currently a case study for CIHEAM/FAO, in the context of sustainable food systems improvement, to assess the sustainability of diets and consumption trends in the Mediterranean.
Therefore, as a contribution to the Charter of Milan, we invite you to Endorse the “MED DIET EXPO 2015 CALL: TIME TO ACT”: https://goo.gl/od2ufl

The 5th World Sustainability Forum | 7–9 September 2015 Universitätsspital Basel, Zentrum für Lehre und Forschung, Switzerland | An international scientific conference of the journal Sustainability under the patronage of the University of Basel.
The year 2015 is important for all of us. We are taking stock of the accomplishments based on the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) that were adopted in the year 2000. The results of these efforts are immensely positive. However, not all goals have been achieved and some regions have benefitted less. The period marked by the MDGs will end in December 2015.
As part of the post-2015 development agenda, the international community is working intensely on a new set of goals, the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to be adopted at the 70th Session of the UN General Assembly in the second half of September 2015.
The 5th World Sustainability Forum aims to be a platform for researchers to present and engage with others on issues relating to sustainability in three thematic areas:
Science, Technology, and EnergyConsumption, Lifestyles, Mobility, and CitiesEconomics, Business, and Management
We seek to contribute to policy-relevant, change-oriented, and transdisciplinary research and collaboration from science and technology, the life sciences, and the social sciences across these three thematic areas and covering the following sustainability dimensions:

Resource efficiency lies at the heart of a modern, competitive, sustainable economy. Businesses facing higher, more volatile resource prices are looking to eco-innovation for answers. By using assets such as energy, water, land and steel more efficiently – and indeed turning to waste as a resource – they can cut back their bills and environmental footprint.
