How Much Sleep Do We Really Need? | Fruits, vegetables, water, and why | Scoop.it
Chase Weholt's insight:

Sleep is very important to have in a healthy living plan. The article says that lack of sleep can stunt your growth and have effects on your amune system. For my age, I need 7-9 hours of sleep per day. School does not allow me to have those hours, but I need to find ways to get more sleep. Eating healthy and exercising is great, but it means nothing if I don't have the energy to function during the day.

Drinking Gatorade vs. Drinking Water during Sports Games / Fitness / Exercises

Drinking Gatorade vs. Drinking Water during Sports Games / Fitness / Exercises | Fruits, vegetables, water, and why | Scoop.it
Chase Weholt's insight:

Running hard work outs can be very tiring. Gadorade is the first drink I go for (if I have it). However, the article points out that I need to balance my gadorade and water intake because I don't need that much sodium during low intensity runs. The other side of this is money. Water is free and gadorade is not. The logical choice is to choose water for daily hydration. It should be the first thing I reach for if I get thirsty. However, there is no problem in grabbing a gadorade after a race. Both help.

Vegetables are healthy, delicious and fun to grow. Learn everything you need to know about vegetables and vegetable gardens.
Chase Weholt's insight:

When I think of vegetables, I think of the gross brocoli my mom wanted to feed me when I was younger. This article is great because it shows the types of vegetables and the tastes that it brings. My mind was set on gross brocoli, but who knew that these amazing foods could offer such a variety of flavors. Vegetables really do make up a lot of the food we eat in restaurants because the chefs are looking for these types of unique tastes. I'll have to try some in my own kitchen!

Chase Weholt's insight:

After taking Psychology and studying body rythms, this article really makes sense. The body most aware functioning during the lunch time hours. It would only seem beneficial to also eat during that time. As the day goes on, we slow down and then end up eating a large dinner. I do this on the daily. Maybe we need to reconsider our food amounts during the day instead of eating because we're hungry.

Water — Know how much water to drink to remain healthy and prevent dehydration.
Chase Weholt's insight:

Cultures and climate also influence how much water we intake. I went out of the country once and needed to triple my water intake because of the hot weather. My home town sees a lot of cold weather, so my body tells me I don't need water as much. However, after drinking the proper amounts, I understand how much my body is deprived. I feel much better with the proper daily amounts, and my running has been positively affected.

Nutrition for Everyone: Fruits and Vegetables | DNPAO | CDC | Fruits, vegetables, water, and why | Scoop.it
Chase Weholt's insight:

It's interesting to see the different amounts of fruits that organizations say need to be on the plate. Is it a cup? Is it half-a-cup? Is it five cups? Regarless, it should at least be on the plate. I have to wonder why there isn't an exact known amount of fruits needed for daily intake. I believe, and my diet has proven, that any range from half-a-cup to 2 cups of fruit works fine. I don't believe measuring exact cups are needed, as long as you can see that your around the needed amount.

I had NO idea that water helped you build muscle. I used to think that it was just to keep us cool and to go into our blood stream. Before my school tests, I always make sure to bring extra water with me because, as the article said, it helps you remember and be smarter. It makes sense that water is good for your joints. There's a lot of friction there and your body needs a good lubricant.
