Measure Your Content Curation Success: A 10 Question Scorecard

Measure Your Content Curation Success: A 10 Question Scorecard | frontpoint security reviews | Scoop.it

Excerpted from article on Content Marketing Institute:
"in our era of limited time and budget resources, how do you measure the quality of your day-to-day and week-to-week content curation efforts?
As Joe Pulizzi writes, “Your job, like that of a museum curator, is to unearth the best content on the planet in your niche, so that your museum doesn’t close down for a lack of visitors.”

To help you gauge the quality and consistency of your content curation efforts, I’ve created the simple worksheet below. Here, find out how you can use it to score your ability to discover, share, and improve your efforts to create “the best content marketing on the planet” on an ongoing basis.

1. Relevance
2. Uniqueness
3. Context
4. Adding value
5. Concise
6. Visual engagement
7. Organization
8. Efficiency
9. Tracking
10. Serendipity

Here are a few bonus tips for making the most of your use of the content curation scorecard:
- Use three-hole paper
- Scoring Binders and divider tabs
- Commit to consistency
- Make it a group effort
- Comments..."

Genome-wide association mapping for wood characteristics in Populus identifies an array of candidate single nucleotide polymorphisms - Porth - 2013 - New Phytologist - Wiley Online Library | frontpoint security reviews | Scoop.it

SummaryEstablishing links between phenotypes and molecular variants is of central importance to accelerate genetic improvement of economically important plant species. Our work represents the first genome-wide association study to the inherently complex and currently poorly understood genetic architecture of industrially relevant wood traits. Here, we employed an Illumina Infinium 34K single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) genotyping array that generated 29 233 high-quality SNPs in c. 3500 broad-based candidate genes within a population of 334 unrelated Populus trichocarpa individuals to establish genome-wide associations. The analysis revealed 141 significant SNPs (α ≤ 0.05) associated with 16 wood chemistry/ultrastructure traits, individually explaining 3–7% of the phenotypic variance. A large set of associations (41% of all hits) occurred in candidate genes preselected for their suggested a priori involvement with secondary growth. For example, an allelic variant in the FRA8 ortholog explained 21% of the total genetic variance in fiber length, when the trait's heritability estimate was considered. The remaining associations identified SNPs in genes not previously implicated in wood or secondary wall formation. Our findings provide unique insights into wood trait architecture and support efforts for population improvement based on desirable allelic variants.

Dramatic Growth of Open Access Journals and documents..but will it all create real impact?

Dramatic Growth of Open Access Journals and documents..but will it all create real impact? | frontpoint security reviews | Scoop.it

Kudos to the Directory of Open Access Journals for an oustanding second quarter! In the past few months, DOAJ has added 912 titles for a total of 9,759 journals. That's a net growth rate of over 10 titles per day, up from the previous rate of over 3 titles per day. At this rate it won't be long before DOAJ exceeds the milestone of 10,000 journals. PubMedCentral growth continues to be very strong in spite of what looks like a bit of backsliding. The percentage of articles published with free fulltext available continues to grow at a steady pace and is now up to 25%. There are now 69 more journals are actively participating in PMC while there has been a drop of 102 journals providing immediate free access and of 16 journals making all articles open access. Highwire Free shows a similar pattern - overall strong growth - more than 60,000 free fulltext articles added this quarter for a total of 2.3 million and an increase of 2 completely free sites with a drop of 6 sites with free back issues. Overall the pattern for journals is very strong growth in full open access and cooperation with PMC, suggesting that the backsliders are a very small minority.

Policy change has since sparked a solar boom, setting up Japan to surpass Germany as the world’s largest photovoltaics market by revenue this year, with sales nearly doubling to $20 billion, according to an IHS report.

Last year, Japan implemented a feed-in tariff, which promises solar producers a subsidized price, at twice the going rate in Germany and France.

Canadian Solar Inc., based in Guelph, Ont., has already taken advantage of the trend, increasing its first-quarter shipments to Japan by 75% over the previous quarter

Shouting at the Cosmos..or how SETI has Taken a Worrisome Turn into Dangeorus Territory | frontpoint security reviews | Scoop.it

SETI has long occupied a unique niche in modern intellectual life, combining serious and far-reaching science with a kind of gosh-wow zeal that seems (at times) to border on the mystical — perhaps as much religious as a product of science or science fiction. Indeed, to some, the notion of contact with advanced alien civilizations may carry much the same transcendental or hopeful significance as any more traditional notion of “salvation from above”. But, should small groups of opinionated people here on Earth decide for the rest of us - without even consulting us - whether to attract the attention of aliens out there? It's a more sober and serious topic that you might expect. And I take a position that might surprise you, for a sci fi author. But I also happen to be a scientist. And I believe important matters should be discussed and done right. See my "Lifeboat" article about "Messages to ET Intelligences... or METI

Our society has one great knack above all others -- one that no other ever managed -- that of holding the mighty accountable. Although elites of all kinds still have many advantages over commonfolk, never before have citizens been so empowered. And history shows that this didn't happen byblinding the mighty -- a futile endeavor that has never worked. It happened by insisting that everybody get to see. By citizens demanding the power to know.

Understanding the Molecular Signatures in Leaves and Flowers by Desorption Electrospray Ionization Mass Spectrometry (DESI MS) Imaging - Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry (ACS Publications) | frontpoint security reviews | Scoop.it

The difference in size, shape, and chemical cues of leaves and flowers display the underlying genetic makeup and their interactions with the environment. The need to understand the molecular signatures of these fragile plant surfaces is illustrated with a model plant, Madagascar periwinkle (Catharanthus roseus (L.) G. Don). Flat, thin layer chromatographic imprints of leaves/petals were imaged using desorption electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (DESI MS), and the results were compared with electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI MS) of their extracts. Tandem mass spectrometry with DESI and ESI, in conjunction with database records, confirmed the molecular species. This protocol has been extended to other plants. Implications of this study in identifying varietal differences, toxic metabolite production, changes in metabolites during growth, pest/pathogen attack, and natural stresses are shown with illustrations. The possibility to image subtle features like eye color of petals, leaf vacuole, leaf margin, and veins is demonstrated.

Giant potica cake before Easter

Giant potica cake before Easter | frontpoint security reviews | Scoop.it

Association of rural women from Prebold (Slovenia) has recently organised the 10th Festival of potica cakes, which took place on 22 and 23 March 2013 in Prebold, where the giant cake baked in the form of Easter potica cake was launched. Its diameter was of 158 cm. It was baked in a bakery Fijavž in Šempeter in Savinja walley, the main master was Andrej Voh.

The giant cake was officially measured and reported for entry in the Guinness Book of Records: it was in the owen for 4 hours, and could be stretched to almost 5 metres long cake. What were the ingridients spent?

10 kg of fine flour and 3 kg crisp flour
     10 kg of nuts
     70 eggs
     9 liters of milk
     3 kg of butter
     3 kg of sugar
4 kg of dried grape berries and
     400 grams of yeast.

Official measurements for the Guinness Book of World Records was held at the evening event - Festival of cakes in Prebold, 22 March 2013. The event was visited by famous Slovenian ethnologist Dr. Janez Bogataj, who is preparing a monograph on potica cakes.

On open call, who in Slovenia could make a large model for giant cake, responded Slovenian Society of Ceramicists and Potters and Pottery of Dobovšek Sebastian and Tatjana, who finaly made a giant model named St. Barbara's model.

The model manufacturing was not an easy task, either. Technological solutions have come up with an experienced potter Bostjan Dobovšek and Technologist Association Blaz Konc. Seven members of the Association on Saturday, 16 February 2013, gathered in Boštjan's workshop in Žalna, where they worked diligently throughout the day. They spend 230 hours of work for modelling and burning clay, which was then cared for drying. They have made 34 kg heavy model with the extent of over 490 cm. At the event on 15 March 2013 in Grosuplje the unique model was given to the President of Association of Rural Women from Prebold, Ms Danica Uplaznik.

For the tenth Festival of potica cakes can be said that it is the traditional event, organized by the Association of Rural Women from Prebold on Friday and Saturday before Palm Sunday. Functioning of society and ideas that attracts both competitors and visitors from near and far surroundings, is the great merit of Danica Uplaznik, the President of the Society, who is assisted by the Municipality Prebold. In the expanded competition in Savinja Valley 66 contestants contributed cakes and pastries. In 2013 competition a Professional Commission awarded 33 gold, 12 silver and 12 bronze medals. Liz, if you go to the original link, you will see the first edition of this from 2008. It is much less complex because Social Networks were less. It might be good to take a look at itt, even though it is not up-to-date. If I see an infographic that is a bit simpler, I will try to think to post it here.
