Canadian music labels demand keys to the Internet - Boing Boing

Canadian music labels demand keys to the Internet - Boing Boing | From the Sofa to #SOPA | Scoop.it

Of course the Canadian big Music industry demands for control of the internet will be even more insane than the Americans -- as the perception by the Canadian government is that we the people are all a lovely bunch of coconuts --- who have no idea what the internet is all about and will fall for the old Nazi ploy of saving the kids from online preditors....

After all we are the nation that packaged and sold the rez system to South Africa ---they called it Aparthied--- a system that is still in full effect  today in Canada with First Nations people being denied any revenue sharing for the resources stolden from their lands.

Its the same old same old the grab all mentality of the Cowboys and their forts -- shutting some in and others out--- that settled this land only 100 years ago!  Divide and conquor. Shame and blame game. Yawn...

Do you think Video is important to Social media?

Do you think Video is important to Social media? | From the Sofa to #SOPA | Scoop.it

Of course. Last time I checked the web was about new media which is time based and therefore includes the following primary mediums: film, video and animation. Film has become video and animation is the bomb, although the other day I saw it being called motion graphics....technically in an editing suite, video editing that is....motion graphics are the bit between pieces of video...the "effects" the ins and outs... Animation is animation just as a rose is a rose. This blog poses the question after revealing just how many people are consuming video opposed to text. Still don't get why this should be such a surprise as we come from a TV culture...which is VIDEO and love to watch stuff....we are a visual culture and as McLuhan said. Post Literate. Who reads anymore???

LAWYER: Never "Pin" A Photo On Pinterest That You Don't Own | From the Sofa to #SOPA | Scoop.it

Ahem, Pinterest. This issue ain't going away.... The bottom line is to just share your own content. What are the stats on that? How many folks are actually creators of orignial stuff? We all learn by copying....Hell I went to art school and that is the way you are supposed to learn -- by copying the great masters we never thought of it as theft or dreamed of calling it our own. Now, we should all crawl back into our caves were we can make our own art and never share anything with any one again! lol...this is not evolution but regression back to the 16th Century where they burnt women as witches and so on and so forth....share people share....soon we will all be in jail and the lawyers will be out of work for sharing... "content"???

We, the Web Kids

"There is not a trace in us of that humble acceptance displayed by our parents, who were convinced that administrative issues were of utmost importance and who considered interaction with the state as something to be celebrated. We do not feel that respect, rooted in the distance between the lonely citizen and the majestic heights where the ruling class reside, barely visible through the clouds. Our view of the social structure is different from yours: society is a network, not a hierarchy. We are used to being able to start a dialogue with anyone, be it a professor or a pop star, and we do not need any special qualifications related to social status. The success of the interaction depends solely on whether the content of our message will be regarded as important and worthy of reply. And if, thanks to cooperation, continuous dispute, defending our arguments against critique, we have a feeling that our opinions on many matters are simply better, why would we not expect a serious dialogue with the government?"
