Mooi overzicht van 5 leer- en kennistheorieën | from a teacher's point of view | Scoop.it

21 simple ideas to improve student motivation

21 simple ideas to improve student motivation | from a teacher's point of view | Scoop.it
The best lessons, books, and materials in the world won’t get students excited about learning and willing to work hard if they’re not motivated.

Motivation, both intrinsic and extrinsic, is a key factor in the success of students at all stages of their education, and teachers can play a pivotal role in providing and encouraging that motivation in their students. Of course that’s much easier said than done, as all students are motivated differently and it takes time and a lot of effort to learn to get a classroom full of kids enthusiastic about learning, working hard, and pushing themselves to excel.

Even the most well-intentioned and educated teachers sometimes lack the skills to keep kids on track, so whether you’re a new teacher or an experienced one, try using these methods to motivate your students and to encourage them to live up to their true potential.

Via Manuela Bazen, Jeroen Bottema

Free Technology for Teachers: Google Launches Google Classroom Mobile Apps

Free Technology for Teachers: Google Launches Google Classroom Mobile Apps | from a teacher's point of view | Scoop.it
Just a few hours ago Google announced the launch of Google Classroom mobile apps for students. The new Google Classroom iOS and Android apps enable students to take pictures and attach them to the assignments that they submit to you. This could be a great option for math students who have trouble typing responses to mathematics problems as they now can write on paper and submit assignments to you by taking a picture of their papers.

This is a fairly basic list of ideas, but could be useful for an initial "checklist". For most of them, there will be associated research and when using "tips" it's always good to be critical and search for other points of view. “Be sure to build in tasks that generate peer-to-peer interaction and sharing; those where participants create something their peers can use and benefit from tend to be most successful" - good point, which has several underlying theoretical principles to back it up.

A Study of Best Practices for Online Courses based on Marzano

Beth Dichter's curator insight, April 6, 2014 1:29 PM

Many schools are exploring online instruction as a component of education (including K-12). If you are interested in learning how one organization (edmentum) had the Marzano Research Laboratory review "the impact of strategies on student academic outcomes in an online learning environment." The report explores best practices in three areas:

* Marzano Dimension: Strategies Involving Routine Events - This area covers six best practices, including

  * Communicating course /assignment rules and procedures

  * Allowing students to keep track of their learning progress

* Marzano Dimension: Strategies Enacted on the Spot - This area also discusses six best practices, including:

  * Providing help to understand and practice new knowledge

  * Allowing students to ask questions during online course/assignment

* Marzano Dimension: Strategies Addressing Content - This area has only one practice:

 * Adding external resources to assignments aligned to local objectives

There is a page devoted to each of the best practices. This information may not be new to you, but if teaching online is new to you there are great suggestions to help you design a course (or teach a course) that will lead to a more successful implementation.

- NRO | from a teacher's point of view | Scoop.it

8 digital skills we must teach our children

8 digital skills we must teach our children | from a teacher's point of view | Scoop.it

The way children use technology is very different from adults. This gap makes it difficult for parents and educators to fully understand the risks and threats that children could face online. As a result, adults may feel unable to advise children on the safe and responsible use of digital technologies. Likewise, this gap gives rise to different perspectives of what is considered acceptable behaviour.
