Eric Been Reviews Rosecrans Baldwin's "Paris, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down"

Eric Been Reviews Rosecrans Baldwin's "Paris, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down" | French Connection | Scoop.it

EARLY IN ROSECRANS Baldwin’s bittersweet memoir detailing his eighteen-month stint working in the French capital, he unabashedly announces that he has almost always held the conviction that the City of Lights was civilization’s summit: “For a long time I’d thought Paris had the world’s best everything. Girls, food, the crumble-down buildings. Even the very dust was arousing.” The Parisian life, he goes on to say, served as “an umbrella, a dream I carried around in case the weather turned bad.”

Europe's Airbus to build planes in US | French Connection | Scoop.it

European planemaker Airbus unveiled plans to open a factory on Boeing's home turf Monday, a gambit that would see the firm roll out its first US-built plane by 2016.
The new $600 million assembly plant, to be built in the southern port city of Mobile, Alabama, on the Gulf of Mexico, will produce the popular A320 family passenger planes.
Airbus estimates 4,600 new single-aisle aircraft will be needed in the United States over the next 20 years and the new US plant could more than double its share in the huge market.

“Duckeasies” Serving Up Forbidden Foie Gras in California

“Duckeasies” Serving Up Forbidden Foie Gras in California | French Connection | Scoop.it

“I live in a state where I can buy marijuana down the street, but I can’t buy foie gras. There’s something fundamentally wrong.” This surprisingly true statement made by Sean Chaney, executive chef of Hot’s Kitchen in Hermosa Beach, CA, highlights the topic everyone seems talking about in California now that the July 1st ban on foie gras is officially in play. Pot but no duck liver. However, just like marijuana use continues to exist where it is still illegal, foie gras will continue to be enjoyed by chefs and food enthusiasts in California. Where there’s a will there’s a way.

Why French women have better love lives

Why French women have better love lives | French Connection | Scoop.it

As if their ability to consume all kinds of bread, cheese and chocolate and still not get fat isn’t enviable enough, French women have yet another reason to make their American counterparts jealous: their relationships. According to Debra Ollivier, author of What French Women Know: About Love, Sex and Other Matters of the Heart and Mind, French women enjoy a satisfaction in their romantic relationships that we here in the States can only dream about. In order to give women on this side of the Atlantic a leg up in the love department, we asked Ollivier for her thoughts on what their romance and dating practices so wildly successful — and what American women can do to capture a little of that je ne sais quoi themselves.

Paris, I Love You, American-style

Paris, I Love You, American-style | French Connection | Scoop.it

With his “charming, hilarious account of la vie Parisienne,” Paris, I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down, about to hit bookstores, Rosecrans Baldwin set off on a two-week tour of U.S. towns (and one Vegas casino) named Paris. His assignment was to find out what Americans really think of the French; his full write-up, “Our French Connection,” has just been published in the Morning News. But we were curious what this chronicler of “the real Paris” made of its American counterparts – if, perhaps, any of them had eclipsed the City of Light, and if it’s truly possible to get tired of Paris.
