Just bought a $200 hiking GPS to track your ski rides?
You're going to cry when you read this.
This $.99 iPhone App has all the features of more costly dedicated device. Yes, you've read it right, all the features: - ski vertical tracking - ski distance - speed - altitude - slope - Export to Google Earth - etc...
AND it doesn't suck your iPhone battery in 20 minutes: I've now been using Ski Tracks for more than a month and it seems that my iPhone barely notices the drag.
If you're a freerider and a bit of a geek, you probably like to track your rides. Of course a good day of powder doesn't measure in meters or even in degrees (or does it?) but I like reliving my runs with this App and track them on the map. Even better, I now export them in Google Earth and I use the preview mode which is like a fast forward video recording in 3D: my whole day of ski in 12 minutes. My kids love it!
Ski Tracks is also super easy to use: just start it when you take your first lift and stop it when you finish your last run. No need to think about it, the App magically determines whenever you're riding and whenever you're in a lift.
The only thing that makes me puzzled is how on earth this guys can make money selling such a jewel for just $.99...
After a week of some of the most impressive skiing we’ve ever seen in Alaska, a clear leader had not yet emerged between Henrik and Cody. That is all about change as one skier steps up in a big way. Part 2 of 2.
A big part of success on the slopes is confidence, right? And what better way to feel confident than by knowing every deft downhill maneuver (or horrible, ankle-shattering spill) will be remembered in HD? Liquid Image's goggles do just that.
I soooooo want that. WTF do I discover this post-Christmas????
The Liquid Image Summit Series HD is a snow goggle with an integrated HD digital camera. The goggle contains a wide angle 136 degree (full field of view) lens to capture all the action while skiing, boarding, sledding or snowmobiling. The hands free unit has a 5.0 MP (2560 x 1920) camera mode and a video mode that records HD720P video (1280x720) at a rate up to 30 frames per second with audio.
