NY's cardinal urges 'freedom of religion battle'

NY's cardinal urges 'freedom of religion battle' | Freedom of Religion | Scoop.it
Cardinal Timothy Dolan called on Roman Catholic worshippers Saturday to become more involved in politics as the church stands against the government in what he called a freedom of religion batt...
Nick Bruncati's insight:

Another short article on the birth control issue in Obamacare.  It also talks about the New York Cardinal talking about him "not imposing teachings on others" and wanting the government to do the same.  In my opinion, Obama is not infringing the first amendment, but has to learn to respect other religions' rules and ideals.  Maybe then he could become a more well liked president (but we all know thats not going to happen).  Gotta love liberal values.

Examiner.com Obama is no champion of religious freedom Fox News The president of the United States will declare Wednesday, January 16 “Religious Freedom Day.” It commemorates one of the great dates in American history, January 16, 1786, when the...
Nick Bruncati's insight:

Obama has declared that on January 16th, it is Freedom of religion day in the United States.  Ironically, Obama has the WORST record of protecting the liberty of Religion in America.  For Example, In 2012, the Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced that with ObamaCare, workers would be required to provide sterilizations and contraceptives, including some that can cause abortions, with no co-pay.  This is a big problem with religions because the United States is a big Christian country, and the use of contraceptives is frowned upon by the Christan community.  Private employers who were opposed to thr mandate would be exempted.

News - An assault on freedom of religion - Washington Times | Freedom of Religion | Scoop.it
Nick Bruncati's insight:

Talks about American and European religious discrimination.  Also, this article talks about some problems with anti homosexual beliefs, and how the catholic chruch does no hate gays, and defends traditional marrige.  They also talk about the ever so controversial Westboro Baptist Church and how they are anti gay and protest at military funerals.  All of these things have to do with religious freedom and free speech because this is allowed in America and it is our 1st amendment right.

Obama: ‘We Stand for Religious Freedom’ | CNS News | Freedom of Religion | Scoop.it
CNSNews.com was launched on June 16, 1998 as a news source for individuals, news organizations and broadcasters who put a higher premium on balance than spin and seek news that’s ignored or under-reported as a result of media bias by omission.
Nick Bruncati's insight:

Gotta love the 44th incumbent.  According to the Obamacare policy, people will be coverd by their insurance to have abortions, and get acess to contraceptives.  And thanks to this, the Obama administration is being sued by many Catholics including including the Catholic Archdioceses of New York.  Also, many Catholic bishops say the regulation an "unjust and illegal mandate" and are furious with Obama.  Hey don't look at me! you VOTED for him!

In the United States, freedom of religion is a constitutionally guaranteed right provided in the religion clauses of the First Amendment. Freedom of religion is also closely associated with separation of church and state, a concept advocated by Thomas Jefferson.[1]

Nick Bruncati's insight:

This wikipedia article pretty much explains freedom of religion in the United States, and its history.  It also gives a modern insight, and gives a take on other religions, and how they were treated.
