Lessons For HealthCare.gov: Former DHS CIO Talks Recovery - InformationWeek | Freedom and Politics | Scoop.it
Former Homeland Security CIO Richard Spires says the key to running big IT programs -- and recovering when they fail -- is first-class program management.
Skip Stein's insight:

"The fact that the site had 400 software bugs that required fixing over the past two months speaks to the fact that it just wasn't ready to be launched -- and to the underlying lack of effective program management. "Given the number of problems... if politics wasn't an issue, I would have immediately shut it down."

Skip Stein's insight:

Another great example of how simple/natural cures can have a major impact on cancer and other diseases.  You don't see them because they can't be patented. Hell, just grow a weed in your backyard and follow simple directions for the oil preparation and you have it.  Cheap, easy and effective.  Of course the corrupt FDA and legal systems prohibit it.  Not only the drug preparations but an entire hemp industry that once thrived in the USA.

How to create a tech-savvy government

How to create a tech-savvy government | Freedom and Politics | Scoop.it
If government could use technology responsively, it would increase public trust.
Skip Stein's insight:

"Civil servants trained in policy know little about digital technology; as a result, they can't ask hard questions or pitch in to help. Many are complacent when it comes to large technology projects. Government technologists, for their part, may have no experience with modern project management and design methods. They usually aren't at the policy-making table; instead, they're brought in after decisions have been made and left to interpret the shifting demands of the tech-blind lawyers and economists."

UPDATE 3-White House meets goals for HealthCare.gov, but more work ahead

UPDATE 3-White House meets goals for HealthCare.gov, but more work ahead | Freedom and Politics | Scoop.it
* Tech adviser cites dramatic improvement since Oct.
Skip Stein's insight:

Amazing that this site is now NOT trying people to use it for fear of too much volume!?!  If Amazon tried this they would be bankrupt in a week!  Now on Cyber Monday there are thousands of sites attraction MILLIONS of users and none (that I know of) have crashed or failed to function.  Sales are clocking along, credit card authorizations along with it.  Obamacare and State developed ACA Healthcare sites?  Not so much.  It is a cluster-fuck and there is no way to just 'patch' it.  Even if they manage to capture the data, the security flaws will create a picnic arena for identity thefts and security information holes that will have major and disastrous fallouts for months to come.

If this mess is any indication, beware of when you actually try to USE the new healthcare ACA programs.  The backbone of claims processing, payment and reimbursement are still suspect and may not have been tested as the front end was not.  Always remember beware of the government offering to 'help' you; it always turns into a bloody disaster.

A conspiracy so vast It's not just the NSA, now the FBI, your local police are also spying on US citizens

Skip Stein's insight:

TV shows and movies add insult to injury. Many of these shows show good people using illegal tactics to find bad/criminals that helps indoctrinate the public that these invasions of privacy are OK. While finding terrorist cells and evil people is the justification, it is done without proper warrants under the Patriot Act and other illegal/unconstitutional laws.

If Congress and the President would just do their jobs, secure our borders and get out of our personal lives, there would be plenty of funding to do legal acts to find and ferret out criminals. If the government would be open and offer a full disclosure to the American public there would be plenty of information flowing about illegal activities (and NO i do not encourage a spy state where neighbours spy on neighbours).

All these invasions into our lives are predicated on the belief by politicians that THEY know better how to manage our lives and livelihoods. Over taxation, over control and invasions into our daily lives has caused a situation much worse than George Orwell ever envisioned.

Not the Federal Governement had invaded our healthcare space and is dictating what is good for us. Control over healthcare is tantamount of controlling a major segment of our economy and undercuts our Freedom and very foundation of Capitalism.

Corruption, kickbacks and illegal 'contributions' to Congressmen and others in Washington and State Capitols have corrupted those sworn to uphold the Constitution of the USA and the State Constitutions. They have forced illegal protectorates for select industries allowed dangerous toxins into our food and medicines; all for the sake of corrupt corporate entities who would otherwise fail in a Free Market.

Hemp: the most versatile plant in the world that is still prohibited from being grown in (most of) America
Skip Stein's insight:

If Hemp is so damn dangerous and the government wants to protect Americans, why do they allow cigarettes and alcohol to be sold at all?  Oh, they tried to ban alcohol before and look at where that ended up?  With Hemp, multiple INDUSTRIES have been banned.  We have to import health yielding hemp seeds from outside the USA.  Hemp Oil (properly prepared) has been shown to be useful in treatment of multiple diseases!  Maybe the drug companies, cotton industry and corrupt politicians have ulterior motives?  Sure they do!

Skip Stein's insight:

No system crashes, no lost sales, I wonder if Obama is getting the message on how to really develop a web site and internet commerce site.  After all the ACA is basically an insurance shopping platform right?  Amazon and the rest garnered billions with millions of users in a single day and no one complained about response time.  Funny how the Federal Government, after spending over $600 million on a dysfunctional and only partially implemented site(s) is an utter failure.  Remember that this front end is just a data capture site, the back end for claims, payments, etc. is yet to be developed and January 1st claims will start to be processed; or not.

When will people realize that big government is ALWAYS and utter failure and disaster; full of graft, corruption and incompetence?

As Hospital Prices Soar, a Stitch Tops $500

As Hospital Prices Soar, a Stitch Tops $500 | Freedom and Politics | Scoop.it
Hospital pricing is often convoluted, and hospital charges represent about a third of the total United States health care bill.
Skip Stein's insight:

Yep and it will only get worse as ACA cuts payments to doctors and hospitals. They will continue to over inflate costs to make up the shortfall in ACA payments (if they ever do get paid!).  Remember they haven't YET developed the payment mechanisms in the ACA previously known as Obamacare.  Now the Democrats are backing away from the Obamacare and trying to distance themselves from Obama and HIS disaster!

Hemp - The ultimate cash crop, health food and environmental savior rolled into one | Freedom and Politics | Scoop.it
Hemp - The ultimate cash crop, health food and environmental savior rolled into one
Skip Stein's insight:

When will people and the idiots in Washington realize that the 'War on Drugs' is a total and utter failure and has cost taxpayers billions of dollars and had yet to halt the illegal flow of drugs?  The effective ban on Hemp has not only stopped what once was a booming industry in the USA but it has prevented US from obtaining locally grown hemp seeds (very high in good Omega's) and therapeutic hemp oil (shown to be effective in cancer treatments).

Could it have been the cotton industry that was instrumental in this ban on  hemp?  Over reaction and knee-jerk response from idiots in government?  Or are the drug cartels who make Trillion$ on selling this relatively harmless 'drug' involved? Alcohol and other prescription drugs are MUCH worse (just listen to the TV commercials - side effects are gruesome to many/most drugs sold on TV).

Open up the USA to productive growing industry of Hemp.  Stop the insane subsidies to major mega-corporations for products that may be harmful to the population (yea, tax dollars go to support GMO and agribusiness, NOT to local organic farmers!).

Obamacare website still failing after deadline; Crashes live on CNN
Skip Stein's insight:

This is just a comedy of errors.  If it wasn't so serious and lives depended on it, it would be funny.  Any corporation would have folded by now as stockholders bailed out.  Many in Congress seem to be trying to do the same thing but have been left holding Obama's bags.

I won't go into it here but have posted previously that if you think this is a mess, wait until January when people actually try to USE/Apply the Insurance Coverage they think they now have (if anyone actually gets through the morass of problems).  It has been widely reported that after the ACA web site (Obamacare) process is completed (by those few who have managed), the data on enrolment going to the insurance companies (EDI 834 transactions) are riddled with errors; to the extent that people are NOT being properly enrolled into the programs they think they have.

When folks try to go to the doctor (those who have been able to actually keep their doctor/hospital etc.) there will be many rude awakenings when the providers can't find them in their coverage rolls.  THEN when the full payment is due (remember YOU are responsible for the charges not covered by insurance... read the form in your doctor's office!!!) the bill will pass to the individual who thorough they had insurance.

Oh boy, think it is bad now, wait until January!
