This was very helpful. I love how one of the top recommendations is to "own" your ipad by adding personal apps and exploring what iPads can do.
Ana Cristina Pratas's comment,
June 9, 4:02 PM
Absolutely Katie! For both learners and teachers that ownership is important. As someone who has 2 (my personal iPad and my teaching iPad) I'd also recommend that one has the most important/used apps on both (it has happened to me to be missing an important app on my teaching iPad once! Quickly corrected :-)

A vast collection of PechaKucha 20x20 presentations that may be a great source of inspiration for learning how to do it and creating one's own presentation. The site hosts presentations in more than 20 languages from events in a huge number of cities all around the world. PechaKucha is a fantastic activity for students who need to practice their speaking skills. Why not organize a PechaKucha event in your school?

Ana Cristina Pratas's curator insight,
June 9, 1:18 PM
"We are living in a historical moment of transformation and realignment in the creation and sharing of knowledge, in social, political and economic life, and in global connectedness. There is wide agreement that we need new models of education suited to this historic moment, and not simply new models of schooling, but entirely new visions of learning better suited to the increasing complexity, connectivity, and velocity of our new knowledge society. Fortunately, we are also able to harness the same technologies and social processes that have powered these transformations in order to provide the next generation with learning experiences that open doors to academic achievement, economic opportunity, and civic engagement. Specifically, we now have the capability to reimagine where, when, and how learning takes place; to empower and motivate youth to pursue knowledge and develop expertise at a pace, to a degree, and on a path that takes advantage of their unique interests and potential; and to build on innovations across a growing spectrum of learning institutions able to support a range of learning experiences for youth that were unimaginable even 15 years ago." distance learning or learning through course videos can be very passive. As we move in this direction we need to be aware and careful of how to continue to engage our "virtual" students Delete the scoop?

Students in successful classrooms not only understand what they are learning, but why they are learning it and how it connects to the world beyond the classroom. Whether it is designing all the components to make a house in a high school maths/technology class or reading a home reader in primary school, students are able to connect with the what, how and why of learning.
We need more innovation for engagement!
