"Photojournalist John D McHugh has released a watermarking app on the iPhone in a bid to root out copyright theft on social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram."
@FranJurga writes: Hooray for John D. McHugh! I hope that 2013 will be a year when people realize what they are doing when they share photos on social media. It's time to be responsible or soon there won't be any photos to share.
The next time you share a photo, look to see if the photographer is identified and, if it is, pass that information along with the photo.
And if it's not, go back to the previous poster, Facebook page, etc. and ask for that detail.
It's like wearing a helmet when you ride: get used to it. Develop the habit. Look for the photographer's credit. And use it.
Photographers make the social media experience rich. The least we can do is give them credit.
