Olympic Veterinarian: Brendan Furlong is overseeing Olympic horses for the fifth--and last--time | NJ.com | Fran Jurga: Equestrian Sport News | Scoop.it

@FranJurga writes: This will be veterinarian Dr. Brendan Furlong’s fifth and last Olympic Games. In this Q and A with USEF's Joanie Morris, he recalls some memorable moments in his time with the US eventing team.

Dr Furlong cleared one big hurdle this morning when Team USA's horses cleared the first veterinary inspection. But that's just the first of many hurdles to come over the next four days.

Congratulations to Dr. Furlong, and thanks!

Olympic Jumping: Stunner: Team USA's Beezie Madden stumbles - NBC Olympics

Olympic Jumping: Stunner: Team USA's Beezie Madden stumbles - NBC Olympics | Fran Jurga: Equestrian Sport News | Scoop.it
LONDON -  What had been a good day for the U.S. ended on a tough note as veteran Beezie Madden failed to complete  the first phase of individual show jumping in equestrian competition at the London Olympics.

@FranJurga writes: What's wrong with coverage of the equestrian events at the London 2012 Olympics?

This article from NBC is a good example: three paragraphs about the competition and no explanation of exactly what happened to our Beezie today, or which element was her nemesis. And EIGHT paragraphs about the royals.

Doesn't Beezie, of all riders, deserve better from the media in her own home nation?

In case you're just starting your day, this passes for the news. NBC says it will air a recap of the first day of showjumping this afternoon at 3:30 pm ET.
