Olympic Veterinarian: Brendan Furlong is overseeing Olympic horses for the fifth--and last--time | NJ.com | Fran Jurga: Equestrian Sport News | Scoop.it

@FranJurga writes: This will be veterinarian Dr. Brendan Furlong’s fifth and last Olympic Games. In this Q and A with USEF's Joanie Morris, he recalls some memorable moments in his time with the US eventing team.

Dr Furlong cleared one big hurdle this morning when Team USA's horses cleared the first veterinary inspection. But that's just the first of many hurdles to come over the next four days.

Congratulations to Dr. Furlong, and thanks!

Filly Gentildonna trounces Orfevre in Japan Cup first via Horse Racing in Japan

Filly Gentildonna trounces Orfevre in Japan Cup first via Horse Racing in Japan | Fran Jurga: Equestrian Sport News | Scoop.it

"In a fierce duel to a Japan Cup photo finish, Gentildonna refused to back down slamming Orfevre to not only his second loss in a row but to his second loss in a row to a filly.

"In claiming her victory of the Japan Cup at Tokyo Racecourse Nov. 25, Gentildonna not only added her name to the list of 31 previous winners, but went down in history as the first 3-year-old filly to do so."

@FranJurga writes: The Japan Cup is the only race I know of that has two runnings: one on turf and one on dirt, a week apart, with (of course) different fields.

The victory by the filly today was such a great stretch duel. Considering that both horse are owned by the same partnership, it was even more interesting.

Moreover both the filly and the colt have won their respective Triple Crowns in Japan.
