Tory minister and tax office boss told parliament failure to prosecute was due to restrictions imposed by French authorities...
In an interview with Le Monde, published on Friday, he said: “I have not understood the comments made by the British authorities. The data on HSBC was transmitted to them in 2010, in the framework of the bilateral conventions that bind us. Nothing has been said to them since. These conventions do restrict the use of the information to tax purposes.
“But if the British tax office wants to bring court cases, it is entitled to do so. The rest is a matter of judicial co-operation.”
He denied France had been approached by HMRC this week, and appeared to suggest the decision on whether to bring criminal prosecutions was entirely in the hands of the UK authorities.

This medieval village is close to Paris but far enough to shake off the city hum and feel like the true campagne. Once per year, it’s transformed into a veritable classical musical sanctuary and a seedbed of contemporary talent by one of the most prestigious musical events in France, the Festival d’Auvers-sur-Oise, which is celebrating its 35th anniversary in 2015. As is customary, the line-up of the festival’s ‘Opus 35’ edition features established luminaries and also embraces the discovery of young interpreters and composers. The programme resonates with such names as Hélène Grimaud, Maria-João Pires, Laurence Equilbey and Renaud Capuçon, and consists of over 20 concerts – opening with Handel’s Messiah under conductor Robert King, who’s celebrated as one of Britain’s greatest. The grand closing concert, meanwhile, will offer Beethoven’s sublime Missa Solemnis, his longest composition, under the direction of Jean-Christophe Spinosi and choirmaster Gildas Pungier.
Auvers-sur-Oise holds a special place in art history and is linked to a number of celebrated artists, most intimately to Vincent Van Gogh, whose genius will be honoured during this year’s festival.

The French Prime Minister Manuel Valls on Thursday called for "the reconsideration of the organization of the Islamic community in France." In a speech to the French Senate on Thursday, Valls said: "We seek to establish a model of Islam that is fully integrated, fully compatible with the values of the Republic." Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve will hold "in the coming days" a series of broad consultations to ask "all necessary questions" about the future of Muslim religious organizations in France, Valls announced. The questions to be addressed include: How imams will be trained, how mosques will be funded, and to what extent foreign financing may be permitted. "How can we accept that Islam in France receives funding from a number of foreign countries, no matter who they are? This is the first question that we must ask. This means that it is necessary to take a number of steps as soon as possible to prevent such funding, especially when the organizations reinforce certain types of behaviors," Valls explained. Valls proposed that a dialogue with Muslim countries be established on these subjects.
