4th of July Storytime!
This story time is designed for children to begin thinking about what freedom stands for and to celebrate with a grand parade and sing-along! Summer is here and America is free, so let's sing a few songs for ol' red white & blue. This story time is for 4-5 year-olds, who can all enjoy the friendship and family brought with the holiday parade.

Begin by: Ask why we celebrate the Fourth of July, discussing parades, etc.

Read: One (or both) of the parade books listed below. This will increase awareness of how multi-cultural our country is, and the different freedoms we all enjoy and how we can celebrate them. The benefits of read-aloud are incredible, so children will build vocabulary and listening skills while also understanding the value of friendship, family, and our history.

Craft: Get excited for our Yankee Doodle march. Create hats and/or firework displays. Crafting is beneficial for children of this age, it is a fun way to engage them in the story time and increase motor skills.

Sing: Rejoice in the wonderful Yankee Doodle sing-along book. Sing loud, play the tune and parade our cheer! Hats adorned, of course.

Great craft to do in the stead of live fireworks! Set out black construction paper, red white & blue paints, some Koosh balls, and let's go! Perhaps adults should supervise the glitter distribution.
