Anyone Can Innovate, But Not Everyone Can !

Anyone Can Innovate, But Not Everyone Can ! | Management - Innovation -Technology and beyond | Scoop.it

Yes, anyone can. But now everyone can. Here’s why…
It is very simple. First of all, to innovate, you need skill combined with will. The skills needed are very straight forward, to begin you need to identify a problem, understand it and then have access to people and information that can help you solve the problem. And, that is just the beginning ...

Fouad Bendris's insight:

The point: Anyone can innovate if they are willing to change their ways, but no everyone can because change isn’t a priority. It is something that happens, and most are more than comfortable waiting until they have to. Those with guts are bound for glory. Take the first step, shed some skin to make way for new capabilities. That is how you start the transformation ...

Welcome to the Era of Product Intelligence !

Welcome to the Era of Product Intelligence ! | Management - Innovation -Technology and beyond | Scoop.it
While the PR on Big Data suggests that it is the newest and holiest grail for strategists, marketers, product developers, and business decision-makers of all stripes, a new hybrid intelligence is emerging from the smoke and mirrors -- one that may be prove to be a little more practical and actionable: Product Intelligence.
Fouad Bendris's insight:

THE SECRET SAUCE: STRUCTURED MEETS UNSTRUCTURED DATA

All of this is possible because of Big Data, big unstructured data. It has forever changed the way Decision Support works. We can now combine structured and unstructured data to drive new insights. Think of the difference between structured and unstructured data this way:

- Structured: everything in a spreadsheet – market data, IP databases, etc.
- Unstructured: “the internet of things” – social media sites, emails, video, etc

It is a much more structured tool, requiring a more formal approach to its use. The Innovation Deck is billed as problem-solving cards for product developers, engineers and inventors. I think it could be a good tool to help guide discussions focused on examination, exploration or evaluation in isolation ...

Don’t Be the Best, Be the Only One ;() | Management - Innovation -Technology and beyond | Scoop.it

Many corporates make all types of efforts, usually PR and advertising, to flaunt their not-so-new product or service to create the impression that they are innovators. Many of these products may end being adopted, but they are usually categorized as “good enough” by customers, so customers will jump ship if a better alternative exists.

Throughout its history Apple has understood what other corporates have not: The customer doesn’t care is you are innovative, he/she cares if you make his/her life better. Period. Apple, hits that on the nail !

Fouad Bendris's insight:

Every business is successful exactly to the extent that it does something others cannot. Apple does what others cannot: it makes products matter to people because it makes people better off.

What can you do that others cannot? That’s how you lead the pack!

Today, 90 percent of the lead recovered from the recycling of old batteries is used to produce new batteries, but over time the market for new lead-acid batteries is likely to decline, potentially leaving a large stockpile of lead with no obvious application !

Booming Electric Car Sales Have Become A Problem In Norway !

Booming Electric Car Sales Have Become A Problem In Norway ! | Management - Innovation -Technology and beyond | Scoop.it

It's become a problem," said Erik Haugstad, a bus driver in the Oslo region who complains about the numerous electric cars clogging bus lanes, which they have the right to use in Norway. The cars are also exempt from urban toll payments or fees at public parking spaces, where they can recharge batteries without cost. But above all, they are exempt from Norway's sky high sales taxes and VAT !

Fouad Bendris's insight:

The commitment is important, because 48 percent of electric car owners say their main reason for buying them was to save money.

According to a survey by the Norwegian Electric Vehicle Association, only 27 percent said it was for environmental reasons and 12 percent to gain time in their rides ...

A kind of Paradox since Electric cars already represent 85 percent of traffic in bus lanes during rush hour !

One of History’s Most Beautiful Cars May Also Be the Most Innovative! | Management - Innovation -Technology and beyond | Scoop.it

Sixty years after its debut, the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing remains one of the most beautiful cars ever made. Even when you paint it beige and cover its seats in shriek-inducing red and green plaid, it’s gorgeous. But more importantly—at least in the annals of automotive history—the car was packed with innovative tech like a slanted inline six-cylinder engine, fuel injection, a lightweight frame, and those glorious doors ...

Fouad Bendris's insight:

The original SL 300s were a pain to maintain and a bit quirky on the handling side, but they sparked quite the line of offspring. The latest is the 2015 SLS AMG GT, a $220k gullwing-ed beast with a 6.3-liter V8 that rockets the car from 0 to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds. If you’ve got one, hold onto it—it could cross the auction block for a lot more money after another 60 years ;()

The Greatest Idea Campaign Ever Run !

The Greatest Idea Campaign Ever Run ! | Management - Innovation -Technology and beyond | Scoop.it

After a victorious battle with the French at Gibraltar, Admiral Sir Cloudesley Shovell and his men set sail for England. Like hundreds of ships before them, they misguided their longitude, and headed straight for the Scilly Isles. The flagship of the fleet, the Association, crashed into the Isles first, sinking within a few minutes. Three more ships crashed before they had any chance to react. Two thousand men perished. This was a familiar scene for the seafaring men of the fifteenth, sixteenth, and seventeenth centuries.

The problem was clear – not knowing the precise distance east or west of the home port. The problem of longitude was a giant one – the cost of losing so many ships, and so many men was devastating to a seafaring nation. But to solve it required a true breakthrough innovation, a technology of the like which had never been seen before !

Fouad Bendris's insight:

It was 300 years ago this year that the Longitude Act was created, yet idea campaigns haven’t changed all that much – the basic good practices still apply. Today however, we are able to go broader and do so with greater speed, thanks to online platforms. But are we taking full advantage of this tremendous capability? Are you looking at your greatest challenges, and asking your audience to try and solve them? If not, why not, and if not now, when?

What makes certain people and certain companies truly innovative? Is it a process? Is it natural ability? Learned behavior and practice, practice, practice? It's most likely all of the above. And undoubtedly, as companies like Ideo with design thinking or Google with their Google X Innovation Lab, there is a cultural element that drives people and employees to utilize all of those qualities in an environment that is unequivocally accepting an open to this kind of production !

Fouad Bendris's insight:

The biggest takeaway? There’s no such thing as the right-brain being the “creative” or “innovative” part of the brain. Creativity is driven by the dynamic interaction of a person’s brain; developing innovative ideas is a complex process that involves different neural networks and thinking patterns ...

Innovation Psychology: Innovate like Leonardo da Vinci !

Innovation Psychology: Innovate like Leonardo da Vinci ! | Management - Innovation -Technology and beyond | Scoop.it

Many people today believe that science and art, like oil and water, do not mix.  However, many of the worlds’ greatest innovators were not constrained by this bias. Leonardo da Vinci was pretty innovative, and his creativity spanned fine art, military engineering, anatomy and biomimicry.  He was not alone. Fred Hoyle was a celebrated astrophysicist, author, and musician, and Einstein claimed to get more pleasure from playing the violin than from Physics.  It was Einstein who said, “The greatest scientists are always artists as well”  ...

Fouad Bendris's insight:

The beauty of Innovating where art and science overlap is that it helps us to tap into both emotions and logic, and by talking to both, we increase the chance that our new ideas will resonate, and be easier to adopt !

The people in these creative professions were by far and away the most likely to be earning significantly less than their parents earned, usually no more than Janitors, Maids or Waiters.
