January is a popular time to set goals. In my last blog I wrote about why we need more than just motivation to make our goals a reality. We need to get inspired about the business we are creating. Getting inspired means going beyond conventional goal setting techniques and crafting a vision based onvalues.
What is happiness? We all have deeply personal (and different!) definitions of happiness. But here's how scientists see it: Happiness is a combination of how satisfied you are with your life plus how good you feel on a daily basis. 40% of your happiness is controlled by your thoughts, actions, and behaviors. It varies from person to person, but approximately 10% is determined by your circumstances and 50% is genetically determined.
When some leaders hear the phrase employee maturity, they assume that employees naturally mature over time. Not quite. For employees to contribute maturely, they must have a mature understanding of the business and of the collaboration needed to succeed.Leaders play a key role in cultivating this maturity. With everyday behaviors, leaders mentor even the best hires into more mature contributions.
