In my recent webinar, Social & Collaborative Learning in the Workplace, I shared a slide that showed the 5 stages of workplace learning. This has attracted a lot of interest, and I’ve been asked to talk more about the differences between “learning” in Stages 1-4 and Stage 5. Working and learning in Stages 1-4 is based upon a Taylorist, industrial age mindset. Although the advent of e-technology in the late 1990s changed businesses into e-businesses, this was essentially about automating existing business thinking and practices. Similarly e-learning was also about automating traditional training practices. Although in the last decade we have seen the emergence of new technologies and trends, these have been merely “retrofitted” (and often “force-fitted”) into this old model of training, and essentially we have seen little more than “tinkering” with this flawed model. L’arrivée en masse des réseaux sociaux et des espaces collaboratifs sur la toile a contribué à créer un Web social dont les pionniers acteurs du Web 2.0 viennent perturber tous les champs d’action de notre société dont notamment notre éducation. Cette nouvelle donne pédagogique incite des enseignants initialement réfractaires à intégrer cette dimension collaborative dans leur mode d’enseignement en pratiquant de nouveaux outils aujourd’hui maîtrisés par leurs élèves le plus souvent en dehors du circuit traditionnel d’enseignement. Qu’en est-il sur le terrain ? Les pratiques évoluent elles ? Faut-il considérer les réseaux sociaux comme des outils d’apprentissage en devenir ? Quelle pédagogie particulière ?
Bien que l’apprentissage en groupe soit encore très marginal en France et que l’ouverture au flux des pratiques du Web 2.0 encore une compétence à laquelle les enseignants ne sont pas forcément préparés, cet article fait le point sur l’état actuel du « Social Learning » et tente de dresser quelques pistes de développement en cours et à venir dans ce domaine.
