Should Google Favor Google+ More Or Less In Search Results?

Should Google Favor Google+ More Or Less In Search Results? | For the love of all things Tech, Digital and Geeky | Scoop.it

In a letter to investors Google CEO Larry Page expressed Google’s goal to create “a beautifully simple experience across Google.

"Think about basic actions like sharing or recommendations,” wrote Larry Page. “When you find a great article, you want to share that knowledge with people who will find it interesting, too. If you see a great movie, you want to recommend it to friends.

Google+ makes sharing super easy by creating a social layer across all our products so users connect with the people who matter to them.”

From Cyborgs to Project Glass: the Augmented Reality Story

From Cyborgs to Project Glass: the Augmented Reality Story | For the love of all things Tech, Digital and Geeky | Scoop.it

Google's Project Glass has been through the usual story arc - rumors, a mind-blowing concept demo, rabid excitement, practicality doubts and then simmering mistrust – in a concentrated three month period, but the back story to augmented reality is in its fifth decade. The desire to integrate virtual graphics with the real-world in a seamless way can be traced back to the days when computers could do little more than trace a few wireframes on a display; it’s been a work-in-progress ever since. If Google’s vision left you reeling, the path AR has taken – and where it might go next – could blow your mind..."

Influence: What Are Tools Like Klout Really Measuring?

Influence: What Are Tools Like Klout Really Measuring? | For the love of all things Tech, Digital and Geeky | Scoop.it

A very interesting comparison of several measurement tools and what they really measure. [note mg]

For marketers, PR professionals and customer service teams, personal influence measurement tools can save time and help facilitate business decisions. Tools such as Klout, PeerIndex, Kred and TweetLevel are being used by brands to rank the relative importance of customers and prospects, prioritize customer service responses, and identify groups of influencers to target with perks and product sampling promotions.

But what are these personal influence measurement tools really measuring? Are they really an effective way to understand which of your customers are more influential?

It is easy to understand influence as a concept; if you can get other people to do something, you have influence. But it’s not at all easy to define how you would measure influence. As Nathan Gilliatt has pointed out, there is no such thing as a “unit of influence” – an observable, measurable event that reflects influence.

Stephen Dale's curator insight, April 14, 2014 11:56 AM

Social reputation and social influence are becoming as important (if not more important) than your paper-based CV and your real-world network. But can they be empirically measured, and if so, what does your score actually mean? This article gives an overview of some of the products/services that purport to give you an influence score. Whether you take it seriously is entirely up to you!

Is Your Content Worthy of a Like, Share, Pin, Retweet, Google +1?

Is Your Content Worthy of a Like, Share, Pin, Retweet, Google +1? | For the love of all things Tech, Digital and Geeky | Scoop.it

This is a question that each person active on social media should ask himself a day or another. Have you ever thought? [note mg]

How many hours have you spent adding buttons, gadgets and widgets to your new blog or website? You research the right tools, share buttons, share bars, analytic tracking tools and more. You install them with a hope and a prayer that someone somewhere is going to use them.

However, unfortunately many business leaders find they don’t get used. The share buttons sit on their site with the lonely zero or default +1. Chances are your pocket book or wallet might be feeling a little lonely too.

What if you took the same time you spend on the share bars, share buttons and tools and instead first focus on something worthy of a share? I know it sounds like a crazy concept because after all it’s far easier to focus on the bright shiny objects, geeky tools and data analytics.

Trust me, I am a data junkie and could literally spend all day helping my clients dig into the heads of their target audiences with a goal of embedding their brand in their brains!

Is your content worthy of a share?

iDesk Concept, Provides A Glimpse Of A Future Workspace.

Adam Benton, the designer of this iDesk concept explains how it works: "The desk could sync with your Mac or potentially have a Mac built in, perhaps with a portion of the desk’s surface angled upward to serve as a display. Tactile keyboards could likewise be replaced by a digital touch-sensitive version (endlessly configurable to your preferences for individual apps), and any part of the desk’s surface could be cordoned off as a trackpad area. Files could be transferred easily between Macs, iPhones, iPads, and so on by sitting the devices on the desk and swiping file icons across its surface from one device to the other.”

Thanks to Deloste for the great pick!

As Internet marketers, we’re tasked with the often difficult job of helping ourselves or our clients gain visibility online.

Why Pinterest Is NOT Your SEO Miracle Worker

Why Pinterest Is NOT Your SEO Miracle Worker | For the love of all things Tech, Digital and Geeky | Scoop.it

Hundreds of SEOs jumped on board the Pinterest train to take advantage of the dofollow links and heavy traffic referrals.

And…those same SEOs soon found themselves failing miserably!

These SEOs are failing because they still haven’t realized what every other social network has taught us in the past few years: in order to succeed on a social network, you’ve got to give as much as you try to take.

We call it a social media presence for a reason: you’ve got to be present and active in order to succeed.

If you’re only hopping on the Pinterest bandwagon for SEO benefits and nothing else, it’s time to hop off.
