April 2 – More pressure has been heaped on English Premier League club Everton after they reported losses of £89.1 million for the 2022-23 season in their latest accounts report, almost double the previous figure of £44.7 million in the previous campaign. The club were docked 10 points earlier this season, reduced on appeal to six, for breaching the Premier League’s financial rules and are waiting to learn if they will face more punishment for further breaches.
January 16 – Already reeling from a 10-point deduction, Everton, one of the most iconic names in English football, could be facing another costly punishment for breaking the Premier League’s financial rules. They and Nottingham Forest have been charged by the Premier League for a breach of their profitability and sustainability rules (PSR) – the equivalent of financial fair play – relating to the 2022-23 season.
June 14 – Everton have reacted to another dismal season by announcing that CEO Denise Barrett-Baxendale and fellow directors Grant Ingles and Graeme Sharp a goalscoring club hero in the 1980s – have all left. The relationship between the board and the fans had become so toxic in the latter part of the season that the directors and chairman Bill Kenwright were advised by police to stay away from home matches because of fears for their safety.
