In analyzing of 446 compounds for their the ability to boost the immune system in humans, researchers from the  Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State University, found only two of these that stood out. 

 

These are resveratrol, a compound found in grapes, and 

pterostilbene, a compound from blueberries.

 

These compounds, are classified as stilbenoids, compounds produced by plants to fight infections, and in human biology appear to affect some of the signaling pathways that allow vitamin D to do its job, researchers said. It appears that combining these compounds with vitamin D has considerably more biological impact than any of them would separately, which is crucial since one-third of the global population is vitamin D deficient.

 

Findings do not prove these benefits would occur as a result of dietary intake, since findings were made in laboratory cell cultures.  As such, it has not been proven that similar results would occur as a result of dietary intakeaccording to a study published in the journal Molecular Nutrition and Food Research.

 

Resveratrol has been the subject of dozens of studies for a range of possible benefits, from improving cardiovascular health to fighting cancer and reducing inflammation.

First Published Resveratrol Human Clinical Trial for Glucose Management

Scientists found that:

 After taking 1, 1.5 and 2 grams of resveratrol daily over 4 weeks :

 

1.Insulin sensitivity was increased--for some, may mean diet and exercise, and resveratrol might be sufficient to healthy blood sugar levels.

2.Spikes of blood sugar experienced by diabetics after a meal were greatly reduced.

 

Together, results show promise as a new therapeutic strategy in Diabetes management and control.
