In the months before my Grandmother passed from cancer, i was showing her pictures of my permaculture gardens in montreal, I had said that we had too many tomatoes. With a quick scottish whit she snapped at me and said "you canny have too many tomatoes dear, Dont ever say that. you can make sauce, and preserves and so on," she proclaimed.
Where has this wisdom gone, where are our values, this concept of keeping market prices high at the cost of human life is a global tragedy that make me imbaresd to be human. I feel wholely different and somehow cant immagin that people who are the same species as me can see this not only as acceptable but as a great profitable idea.
I seek refuge in the people i meed through permaculture, food security workshops and community gardens, at last i know i am not alone in this way of thinking. if you want to join us and see your potential to change this world grow like the seeds of change often do, then join us in one of our many workshops at www.p3permaculture.ca or if we are not near you then find a permaculture community of your own. A friend of mine once told me she was alergic to apples? I said i had never herd of that before , and I am alergic to all harsh chemicals so i know a bit about it. Then i thought " you should try an organic apple before you discount the whole bunch" and low and behold she was just alergic to the pesticide laden wax that coats our precious food!
If you cant go organic you can at least let your fruit and vegies soak in a bowl of water with 2 table spoons of vinegar , to really clean off the chemicals.
Or find a CSA, or local farmer to support, it dosent need to be certified, if you can talk to the farmer and visit the farm.
