LAHORE: Massive increase in agriculture input costs have raised the prices of all basic commodities and Pakistan is set to face food security crisis as a large portion of country’s population is undernourished.

Experts have demanded the government to adopt prudent policies to deal with the menace of hunger and food security in a country where agriculture contributes 21 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP).

The FAO Food Price Index dropped for the third consecutive month in December 2012, edging down 1.1 percent.
The decline in December, when the Index averaged 209 points, was led by drops in the international prices of major cereals and oils and fats. The Index’s previous low in 2012 was in June, at 200 points.
