The European Union (EU) legislation affects US agriculture export only, if products do not comply with the EU food and feed safety legislation. This is why the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) begun testing initiative with an audit conducted by the EU's Food and Veterinary Office in October 2011. The results of the prior EU testing showed that the feed from United States was not in compliance with several of the group's antibiotic regulations.
The testing requirements for all imported agricultural products are listed on the EU's Food and Veterinary Office (FVO)'s website. After feed is eaten, it becomes our food; and for EU Member States the same level of safety is required as for the import.
In the original article the author describes also a scientific opinion of European Food Safety Agency of tolerance levels for mycotoxins produced by various Fusarium species (plant disease) and their risk to human and animal health posed by grains and grain-based foods.
