Coffee Party USA's curator insight, May 1, 2013 7:50 AM

Why so much money spent and political efforts used to covertly push something that should be an easy sale if it really is all that great? Surely commercail ads that say what they have to offer are by far cheaper. That is true unless they already know people would rarely, willing buy the stuff IF they knew AND had a choice.

Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

I really wasn't sure where to put this scoop. There may be a time when the GMOs affect our fertility as many think GMOs are affecting herds fed GMOs. The physical environment might affect this as well. The social and economic challenges may impact fertility and plain selfishness and putting industrial needs over human needs could affect it as well. It looks like an interesting book so I thought I would make note of it.

I have yet to read this book, but the title alone says that it could be an intriguing supplemental text for a unit on population (or an 'opposing viewpoint' to consider).  For those that have read the book, please comment below.

I ordered this book from Amazon because I thought it would be a great fit for AP Human. I read the first 20 pages last night and was blown away. It totally covers all the information in the Demography Unit and the author has a sense of humor. Only 20 pages in, but I give it two thumbs up!

Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

This is areally interesting medical reason for the increase in bottled water sales. I try to use my filtered water from home now. I store it in glass Ameican Made bottles I refill and place in the fridge here and at work, use it for coffee and ice making as well and try to use reusable containers like thermal stainless and glass or cermanic ware for holding serving size to-go-drinks. I think it would help if people were encouraged to bring your own drink containers or provided reusable containers that could be returned for refund or used for refills.  Customers would pick it up full at one McDonald and turn it back in for either refund or refill at the next.

The Popular Food That Turns Your Gut Into A Pesticide Factory

The Popular Food That Turns Your Gut Into A Pesticide Factory | GMOs & FOOD, WATER & SOIL MATTERS | Scoop.it
Research reveals one "safe" toxin used to make corn is in 93 percent of maternal and 69 percent of non-pregnant women's blood samples.
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

The joy of learning to grow food again, save and use natural seeds, and learning to cook enough to enjoy doing that again needs to be rediscovered NOW. Trusting the corporate feeding bins to keep us healthy, not just happy to have someone else cook isn't working well. I wondered why they have taken things like homemake, shop and serious ag classes and other hands on training out of nearly all schools these days. The story was that we no longer have manufacturing and few people become farmers. Another argument is it's cheaper to buy all that stuff from poor people some where.

THe final result haowever is a society of people that are dependent on the  corportate provisions of all types of things we could once do for ourself. When it comes to food we could even obtain it once free with only seed, sun, soil and water... These days most of us don't even know how to do these things and several decades of generations have rarely seen food that wasn't raised on a grocery store self. Maybe it's time to refind those skills.

Excerpt:

However, just last month, a study revealed that Bt toxin was detected in:

Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

This is about something called spice...That can kill on first use.

Ecerpt:

SAFE Coalition member DeeDe Crigler said she will testify about the dangers of the alternative drugs at Monday’s city council meeting, along with at least three other members of the group.

“People are dying with first-time use of synthetic drugs,” Crigler said. “Some of the chemicals make them 50 times stronger than marijuana and they’re packaging them just like candy.”

Crigler said one of her teenage daughter’s friends bought a package of them at a local liquor store accidentally, believing they were the popular candy “Pop Rocks.”

“There’s no age limit for who can purchase them,” Crigler said.

Calls to nationwide Poison Control Centers for exposure to spice increased from 2,915 to 6, 959 in 2011, according to a fact sheet distributed by the SAFE Coalition. And federal regulations only ban the chemicals within the drugs, according to Crigler, allowing the producers to make minor alterations and keep them lawfully on the market.

Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

Excerpt:

Meyer was allowed to leave. She later found out she was being prosecuted under the state’s new “ag-gag” law.
This is the first prosecution in the country under one of these laws, which are designed to silence undercover investigators who expose animal welfare abuses on factory farms. The legislation is a direct response to a series of shocking investigations by groups like the Humane Society, Mercy for Animals, and Compassion Over Killing that have led to plant closures, public outrage, and criminal charges against workers.

The right to food that is healthy is basic and we need to stand up for this right. This is as natural as the "real" original they say......Then why do these companies have patents if it's so much the same it needs no labels? Why did they make it in the first place if it is no different?

Why is it important to have so many people in such major roles placed there to sneak/push the stuff into everyone's diet, air and soil with ownership of  planet ownership as a goal? THis is like a giant dog marking his area andit just happens to Round Up poisonand he intends to mark soil of the whole planet and every tree, bush, veggie and animal.

Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

I think most of us learned these things in science class. National and business leaders must have to be tested to make sure they forgot that part before starting their jobs. It sure seems that way when you see leaders decide that these plants are mainly for harvesting and forget it would cost a fortune to redesign what plants do for free for our planet and health..
