Warning: 100-year climate disasters every 100 days Paul B. Farrell

Warning: 100-year climate disasters every 100 days Paul B. Farrell | GMOs & FOOD, WATER & SOIL MATTERS | Scoop.it

"In today’s high-tech, big-data, science-driven capitalism, insurers can’t make money using century-old, seat-of-the-pants, hand-me-down, 100-year-disaster recurrence formulas that no longer reflect the 21st century’s accelerating trends. The truth is, so-called 100-year disasters are often repeating about as fast as every 100-days.

Starting now, climate-science deniers can babble all they want — Big Oil, Koch Brothers, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, lobbyists and extremist politicians — all those climate-denying Luddites can rant and rave all they want about their myopic ideologies, unprincipled obstructionism, underlying greed, and tout their made-up scientific reports. They can pay off academicians to write articles and make speeches to cast doubt on legitimate climate-change science. And they can buy all the national ads they want to degrade climate activists like Greenpeace, Tom Steyer, Bill McKibben and his 350.org global army fighting to stop the Keystone XL pipeline from polluting America.

But soon, all the science-deniers’ noise won’t matter much. And no new climate-science legislation will be needed ... No grand bipartisan political bargain will be necessary ... No long, drawn out, costly lobbying efforts called for ... No new worldwide campaigns to support climate change ... in the future, insurance costs will be based on real climate science."

Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

Wel,l here is another stamp of acceptance of the idea of climate change from an industry no one tried to enlist to support the idea of climate change.

Great Article!

Excerpt:

Dr. Chito Medina, Masipag national coordinator, says in the book’s foreword: “Promoters of GM crops always recite a litany of benefits including better yield, use of less pesticides, (being) less labor-intensive and improved income of farmers despite lack of sufficient evidence.” These supposed benefits are promoted without consideration for other socio-economic factors, he added. And while evidence of the adverse effects of GMOs on health and the environment are accumulating, data on the socio-economic impact of GMOs are rarely and dramatically laid bare, he stressed.

Senate Removes Law Protecting GMO Crops From Court Authority From Spending Bill

WASHINGTON, DC -- Food Democracy Now!
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

Yea! Our voices can make a difference if we bring enough of them together for the right reasons. Make no mistake... this is just one step and we have to keep watching all the others carefully.

Excerpt:

“This is a major victory for the food movement and all those who care about openness and transparency in their government,” said Dave Murphy, founder an executive director of Food Democracy Now!, a grassroots movement of more than 650,000 farmers and citizens that led the charge against the secret rider for the past year. “And a sign that our voices can make the difference when we are effectively organized.” The Monsanto Protection Act (section 735), a provision that circumvents court authority to stop the planting and cultivation of GMO crops, was set to expire at the end of September, but its inclusion in Continuing Resolution (HJ.Res.59) by House Republicans, which passed by a vote of 230-189, would have kept the provision as law through the end of the year. But last night, Senator Mikulski, responding to the tens of thousands of phone calls from outraged citizens around the country, announced she would remove the Monsanto Protection Act from the Senate's version of the continuing resolution.

Still rainbow, but more warrior: The latest Greenpeace protests mark a strategic change in its approach | GMOs & FOOD, WATER & SOIL MATTERS | Scoop.it
Almost 30 Greenpeace activists face up to 15 years in a Russian prison after protesting at an Arctic oil drilling rig.
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

Greenpeace activists have always known they were putting each other in harms way. This newest endeavor came with a high price tag so far. We need groups like these that are willing to put it all out there to bring attention to possible harmful events happening to our environment.

We can help by not letting the activist hang out there all alone and ignored and forgottened. Letters or tweets to officials in Russia can let them know the whole world is watching and does not  plan to stop just because they lock up people that challenge the wisdom of the oil rigs in the Arctic.
