If water is the new oil and shale gas is the new energy savior, something has to give. That’s because the exploration for the unconventional form of natural gas uses so much water that it is encroaching on society’s other needs.

The pipe lines needed are also crossing close to healthy water supplies as they cross many areas to pipe very toxic liquid gas across the country side. Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

Did 22 million dollars buy only a 10% lead? All I can say is keep on fighting for our right to know! There have been  mega millions spent to defeat labeling bills in the States and all that money to buy propaganda ads is only barely beating back the demand for labeling and the right to know what is in our food!  Most of those that want to avoid GMOs just have cut way back on lots of junk and processed foods overall since no one can be sure what has what in it.

Eventually  that lack of trust in the food industry and farmers and chemical companies alone will undercut the money these groups have to buy ads. Anyone who has cut unknown source foods and junk foods from their shopping list will tell you it is rarely missed once the habit is changed. To change the bad food habits just keep getting informed, pay attention to your body and what it really needs  and it's a natural change.

Bianchetti Truffle Hunting Video

Fresh truffles are one of the world’s most highly prized ingredients, but they’re also one of the hardest to find.  Expert foragers search the forests of Europe for these little culinary gems, using their knowledge of the fungus’ preferences to find the most likely spot.

Like other wild produce (wild mushrooms, wild vegetables, etc) truffles grow where Mother Nature dictates.  They actually have a symbiotic relationship with tree roots.  Which trees they prefer can vary with the truffle species, but in general oak, hazelnut & beech glades are a good place to look.

They’re often obscured by debris on the forest floor, so foragers usually employ animals to help uncover them – typically trained pigs or dogs.  Truffles evolved to reproduce by being consumed (their spores are distributed through animal excrement), so when they’re ripe they emit a powerful aroma to attract animals to eat them.

Justin had a chance to forage for bianchetti truffles during a recent trip to Italy, and he brought a camera along so you could see what it’s like. [...]

Relocation of Endangered Fish Spurs Recovery in Grand Canyon [Slide Show]: Scientific American | GMOs & FOOD, WATER & SOIL MATTERS | Scoop.it
Against long odds, a milestone is reached in the efforts to improve the humpback chub's chances of survival

Some 300 fish took a most unusual trip. Freshly delivered from their winter base camp at a hatchery in southeastern New Mexico earlier this year, the live swimmers—ensconced in aerated coolers—were helicoptered to the base of a dazzling turquoise-blue waterfall in the remote western region of Grand Canyon National Park.

Located in Copenhagen, Denmark, the Green Lighthouse is the first CO2 neutral public building in the country.

Designed by Christensen & Co Architects, the project features a circular shape and adjustable louvers mirroring the course of the sun, which is the main source of energy.

The project is based on a new experiment with the energy which consists of a supply combination of district heating, photovoltaic solar heating and cooling and seasonal storage. The building’s design led to a 70% reduction of the energy consumption due to its round shape which features adjustable louvers that follow the sun’s course.
