Tour The World's Tallest (And Deepest) Gardens

Tour The World's Tallest (And Deepest) Gardens | GMOs & FOOD, WATER & SOIL MATTERS | Scoop.it

Where did the greenery go in our dream of a “concrete jungle”? Sure, pocket parks are all the rage—but why stop there instead of going for the whole pair of plants? The potential for green space in our cities extends far beyond the surfaces of our streets, and two recent proposals take plants to whole new heights (and depths!).

Why the Food Industry Is Running Scared of Internet Activism

Why the Food Industry Is Running Scared of Internet Activism | GMOs & FOOD, WATER & SOIL MATTERS | Scoop.it

Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

Great article! I disagree on one point."But unfortunately for food companies, the Internet genie is out of the bottle and there's no turning back." This is true for the last decade but Tom Wheeler over at the FCC may soon change that if he allows and even encourages Food industry Sponsors of MEdia to get their greedy misleading hands on the "fast lane" internet he is proposing.

I hope everyone is letting Mr. Wheeler at the FCC, their Representatives and even the White House know we want our internet with the type of NET NEUTRALITY  Tim Bernners-Lee designed it with or the food industry and other monopolies may again get what this article says they want. "The food industry would no doubt prefer a return to the days when it alone controlled the narrative about food ingredients and food processing."

Mr. Wheeler is working hard to give the Internet over to the old sponsored style control model where those with the most money control the messages everyone is allowed to hear.

I hope the internet genie is out of the bottle…but don't set on your hands expecting it to stay that way if you don't join the battle to make it so.…

How the US Is Bullying El Salvador Into Using Monsanto's GMO Seeds

How the US Is Bullying El Salvador Into Using Monsanto's GMO Seeds | GMOs & FOOD, WATER & SOIL MATTERS | Scoop.it
Our government is missing the chance to correct past mistakes and to partner with the Salvadoran people as they journey toward a just and peaceful society. The American people can do better....
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

Excerpt:

But rather than send a high level delegate, rather than offer reparations, rather than extend our hand in friendship to the new Salvadoran administration, the United States is actually trying to bully the Salvadorans. The U.S. is trying to force El Salvador to use Monsanto's GMO seeds rather than their own indigenous seeds or risk losing nearly $300 million in aid.

As reported in World War Four Report:

At issue was an indication by U.S. ambassador Mari Carmen Aponte that the U.S. may withhold $277 million slated for the second phase of the Millennium Challenge Corporation aid program if the Salvadoran Agriculture Ministry continues its current practice of buying seeds from small-scale Salvadoran producers for its Family Agriculture Plan.

To the Salvadorans, using indigenous seeds makes sense both economically and agriculturally. Over millennia, nature has adapted these seeds to the Salvadoran climate and soil. But there is another equally pressing reason to avoid Monsanto's GMO seeds.
