AP's curator insight, April 2, 2013 2:51 PM

As stated in the article "Nathaniel is on eof the 3 million kids in the US that (suffer from) live with severe and life threatening food allergies." Three million children in the US suffer from this and as classmates and teachers we must be understanding. Therefore, it is highly important that schools provide healthy options. Food such as chips, crackers, and granola bars, which are provided in some high schools, are not possible for some children to eat. Children should not have to look at their options and think that they cannot eat it. They need fruits and vegetables such as carrots, bananas, apples, etc. provided to leave them feeling happy and healthy while not having to worry about what they just ate. As a person with lactose intollerance and having other intestinal/stomach issues, nothing is more distracting in class than when you've accidently consumed something that does not agree with your stomach, leaves you feeling uncomfertable, etc. By having healthy fruits and vegetables, everyone can be happy and pay attention in class in a effective way.
