Focusing: A Path Toward Befriending Feelings - PsychCentral.com (blog)

Focusing: A Path Toward Befriending Feelings - PsychCentral.com (blog) | focusing_gr | Scoop.it
During the 1960’s, the psychologist and philosopher Eugene Gendlin asked a simple question: why do some people make progress in psychotherapy, while others don’t — and what is happening within those individuals who are benefiting from therapy?

The Implicit & Experiential Rantings of a Person: My Top Ten Recommended Areas of Change for the NVC Network

The Implicit & Experiential Rantings of a Person: My Top Ten Recommended Areas of Change for the NVC Network | focusing_gr | Scoop.it
focusing_gr's insight:

The NVC (which is short for Nonviolent Communication) world seems to be in an interesting position right now. The founder/creator Marshall Rosenberg recently passed away and the international organization that owns the trademark and coordinates many things related to it, the CNVC (short for Center for Nonviolent Communication), is currently in the midst of a lot of different re-evaluation and restructuring. The time is ripe for changes in the NVC world.

Society for Humanistic Psychology: Authentic People Are More Psychologically Adjusted and Seen More Accurately By Others

Society for Humanistic Psychology: Authentic People Are More Psychologically Adjusted and Seen More Accurately By Others | focusing_gr | Scoop.it
focusing_gr's insight:

In Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Lauren J. Human and colleagues (2014) examined why well-adjusted people seem to be judged more accurately. Their investigation led them to discover that those who are well-adjusted are viewed more accurately due to the congruency between their personality and actions. In other words, more well-adjusted people were more authentic or congruent, and therefore were more transparent to others as a result. These findings support a key concept of humanistic psychology identified by Carl Rogers: a key ingredient of a fully functioning personality is congruency or authenticity.

A Path Toward Deeper Intimacy
focusing_gr's insight:

Dr. Eugene Gendlin, whose research led to the approach known as Focusing (link is external), found that clients who made the most progress in psychotherapy (link is external) (despite the orientation of the therapist) were those who were contacting and speaking from their actual felt experience. They paused, stammered, and groped for words or images to describe their deeper experience rather than just talking from their heads. Things shifted and opened up as they stayed with their authentic experience from moment to moment.
