Connected Learning
Inside Higher Ed (blog)
These platforms have greatly extended social networks, increased the immediacy and timeliness of communication, and make interaction less hierarchical and more interactive and multivocal.
Linda Kaiser, PhD's insight:

To me this article receives two thumbs up!  It starts out by listing all of the "bad things" about social media that many opponents of social media like to claim.  However, this article goes to the next step and refutes these claims and provides many excellent ways social media can and should be used in the classroom to engage today's "unengaged" learners.  Don't take their technology away because they don't seem to be interacting.  Give them a reason to use their technology to learn!

The Best Way to Build Student E-Portfolios: Use Evernote

The Best Way to Build Student E-Portfolios: Use Evernote | Focus: Online EdTech | Scoop.it
Although Evernote already is a fairly well-known app, very few educators realize its potential building and sharing student portfolios.
Linda Kaiser, PhD's insight:

I am a strong proponent for having students create e-portfolios to display their work.  These digital portfolios are also an excellent tool to show propsective employers what a potential employee's work might look like.  Not only do digital portfolios keep a historical record of a student's work, they can be used well into the future as part of their personal learning environments.
