Time is money.
Stuck in an unproductive meeting — again? Everyone agrees that meetings can be a waste of time, but they’re actually a waste of money, too. How much? In a study of time budgeting at large corporations, Bain & Company found that a single weekly meeting of midlevel managers was costing one organization $15M a year!

Do You Need a Social Strategy?

Do You Need a Social Strategy? | Focus on Green Meetings & Digital Innovation | Scoop.it

We all learned that we shouldn’t ask a Yes/No question when desiring to start a discussion. Also, it would seem like we are “supposed to” say “Yes” to a question of whether we need a strategy or not. I mean, isn’t that the correct answer?

We may all know that we need a strategy. We also all know that we should eat healthy food and that we should exercise regularly. So, does that mean we do any of it? Not necessarily. At least, not necessarily for every single person in existence...

More time at #IMEX European Hosted Buyer Program - eTurboNews.com | Focus on Green Meetings & Digital Innovation | Scoop.it
The IMEX Group today announced that it is extending its European hosted buyer program for IMEX in Frankfurt 2016 to become a three day (two night) ...

Carina Bauer, CEO of the IMEX Group, explained: “With 3,500 exhibitors at IMEX, almost 200 educational sessions and a similar number of networking events, we recognize that it’s impossible to take full advantage of the show in a short space of time. Many hosted buyers told us that they wanted to be able to get more business done at IMEX, but also that they wanted more time to walk the aisles, soak up the inspiration and attend educational events. By offering buyers the opportunity to spend more time at the show we will be ensuring that their time out of the office is more productive, as well as being less rushed.

#GreenEvent - Il Vienna CB ancora licenziatario per la certificazione green austriaca | Focus on Green Meetings & Digital Innovation | Scoop.it

The Future of the Trade Show Industry Is in Organisers’ Hands - Event Industry News

The Future of the Trade Show Industry Is in Organisers’ Hands - Event Industry News | Focus on Green Meetings & Digital Innovation | Scoop.it

Whether event organisers want to admit it or not, trade shows face a serious problem. Thanks to high costs and digital competition, it’s harder to sell booths and floor space than ever before.

Organisers have to take action to retain current exhibitors and encourage new ones or risk seeing participant numbers continue to fall. As the key decision makers, they’re in the best position to do just that: Industry change needs to start at the top.

Organisers Must Initiate Change

Whether it’s selecting suppliers, finding a venue, or generating booth sales, it’s all based on the organiser’s wants. Everything involving a show’s setup flows through the organiser, yet organisers lack the data to do their jobs effectively.

Compare a trade show to a wedding. If the groomsmen go to the bar and pay one price for drinks, and the bridesmaids pay a different amount — all while the organiser thought the wedding had an open bar — something is amiss. Real-time exhibitor data is critically important, and many organisers don’t have access to it.

Organisers can’t allow suppliers and vendors to be the only ones privy to exhibitor data and expect to provide a positive experience. Having access to — and using — that information helps organisers maintain a consistent brand, provide year-to-year business continuity, and free up time to sell their own products across different revenue streams.

Here are seven ways organisers can revolutionise the industry: ....

The Difference Between a Community Manager and a Social Media Manager - SumAll | Focus on Green Meetings & Digital Innovation | Scoop.it
Not all social media roles are created equal. The lines between the roles of community managers versus social media managers often get blurred. Many organizations use the terms interchangeably and assume that a social media manager will manage community and that a community manager will be strategic in social media. That isn’t always the case. …

Studies: Many event-minded marketers don’t track ROI | Plan Your Meetings

Studies: Many event-minded marketers don’t track ROI | Plan Your Meetings | Focus on Green Meetings & Digital Innovation | Scoop.it

Two recent studies show that events make money, but that sizable percentages of marketers don’t know how much return they’re getting on their investments.

A study by Demand Metric, done for the event-management software company Attend, found 21 percent of marketers said that events they sponsored as marketing initiatives earned average returns of 20 percent to 29 percent. (You can download the report at that link.)

The second-largest share (19 percent) said they didn’t know how much their events earned. Eight percent said they broke even or lost money, and another 8 percent said they doubled their investment. The survey included 202 marketers, 68 percent of whom work for B2B companies.

Less than a third used ROI to measure event success, said the study, which also found that while only 28 percent of respondents used event-management software, they were more likely to track metrics such as ROI (35 percent to 25 percent), engagement (43 percent to 30 percent) and revenue (47 percent to 31 percent).

A scientific conferences survey done by BioBM found that only 38 percent of the B2B marketers for life-sciences companies tracked their ROI using quantitative (numbers-based) metrics, although 49 percent said they either tracked ROI using qualitative (subjective) measures or “had a good idea” of it. (You can download the report at that link.)

The study also found that while conferences occupy the largest share of participants’ marketing budgets, marketers ranked them third for ROI, behind content marketing and email marketing.

Meetings Today Blog | Water, Water, Everywhere?

Meetings Today Blog | Water, Water, Everywhere? | Focus on Green Meetings & Digital Innovation | Scoop.it

.. Can our industry be part of the solution and not part of the problem?

As meeting professionals, both planners and suppliers, we have an enormous opportunity to make an impact just by making more responsible choices, to be aware of the consequences of our requests on the communities where our events are held. Most of these choices are the low-hanging fruit of water conservation and don’t require much effort.

Start today by:

Not prefilling water glasses for a banquet.Requiring a linen reuse policy and low flow fixtures be in place at the hotel.Provide refill stations for personal water bottles during the event.Ordering chicken or vegetarian options instead of beef which have a lower water footprint.Ask your meeting venue about their water-saving policies and ensure they are being implemented...

- See more at: http://www.eventreport.it/stories/mercato/115327_arriva_splacer_lairbnb_delle_location_per_eventi_si_affittano_spazi_privati_e_la_site_inspection__inclusa/#sthash.YUc5NEcg.dpuf

- See more at: http://www.eventreport.it/stories/mercato/115289_in_italia_309mila_eventi_e_25_milioni_di_partecipanti_ecco_i_principali_committenti_e_le_location_pi_utilizzate/#sthash.jcARPdhW.dpuf
