The Saab 37 Viggen was designed to meet a requirement for an integrated weapons system with high performance, exceptional versatility, and STOL capability from runways which were nothing more than lengths of straight road. The result was an unusual aircraft utilizing a double-delta wing configuration, with canard foreplanes. A remarkable aircraft, the Viggen had superb STOL performance and was able to take off and land in as little as 400 metres.
