Google Quietly Testing Offline Store Visits Tracking | Floqr Mobile News | Scoop.it

Last month Google announced a program called “Estimated Total Conversions.” That program is intended to report or provide visibility into cross-device and offline conversions by tracking the activities of signed-in Chrome users and extrapolating that data to the broader Google user population.

The future of the Mobile Wallet is not in payments, but in organizing it

The future of the Mobile Wallet is not in payments, but in organizing it | Floqr Mobile News | Scoop.it

The real opportunity for brands is on the non-payment side, or the part of the wallet used to organize, not to pay for, items. Consumers are making their demands clear, according to recent research: They want solutions that help them better organize their mobile phones, especially as their reliance on them to complete daily tasks such as shopping continues to grow.

For retailers, the opportunity is vast, yet mostly un-tapped; they can use this emerging non-payment side of the mobile wallet, led by Apple’s Passbook and now available with Google Wallet and Samsung Wallet, to build personal, ongoing relationships with their consumers that drive loyalty and increase average order value.

Report: iPad Has 'Passed The Baton' To Android Tablets

Report: iPad Has 'Passed The Baton' To Android Tablets | Floqr Mobile News | Scoop.it

ABI estimated that Android tablets generated half of all tablet sales revenues in Q2. The company said the global tablet market saw $12.7 billion in overall sales in Q2, $6.3 billion of which were iPads.

Based on the iPhone smartphone precedent, various analyst firms have been anticipating the iPad would lose its dominant position in the tablet market just Apple did in the handset market. However in terms of “facts on the ground” none of these predictions have thus far come true.

Perhaps it’s just a matter of time. And, perhaps if ABI’s revenue estimates are correct, Android has now reached escape velocity. In North America at least the internet traffic generated by the iPad still far eclipses all Android tablets combined.

While there’s a great deal of discussion around the pros and cons of fingerprint authentication — from the hackability of the technique to the reliability of readers — no one’s focusing on the legal effects of moving from PINs to fingerprints.

Because the constitutional protection of the Fifth Amendment, which guarantees that “no person shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself,” may not apply when it comes to biometric-based fingerprints (things that reflect who we are) as opposed to memory-based passwords and PINs (things we need to know and remember).

Here’s an easy fix: give users the option to unlock their phones with a fingerprint plus something the user knows.
