In the coming financial year, universities will find their budgets under increased pressure as a result of the opposition and Senate crossbenchers blocking essential higher education reforms. As reported yesterday, about $3 billion in cuts to course funding and efficiency dividends will remain on the Abbott government’s books in the budget. But without the deregulation package that was defeated in the Senate, universities will struggle to make up the shortfall.
