Three Principles for Net Work

Three Principles for Net Work | Educación flexible y abierta | Scoop.it

"The nature of work is changing in our increasingly networked economy. What was considered good, dependable work in the 20th century is now getting automated or outsourced. ...

The high-value work today is in facing complexity, not in addressing problems that have already been solved and for which a formulaic or standardized response has been developed. One challenge for organizations is getting people to realize that what they already know has increasingly diminishing value. How to learn and solve problems together is becoming the real business advantage."

Education Week | When Teachers Demand to Be Co-Creators, Not Consumers

Education Week | When Teachers Demand to Be Co-Creators, Not Consumers | Educación flexible y abierta | Scoop.it

By Justin Reich

The richest exchanges on day two of the Hewlett Open Educational Resources Grantee Meeting came from those who challenged the fundamental premises of the meeting. In designing the meeting, Berkman staff imagined three groups: Learners, Facilitators (teachers, librarians, coaches, educators, etc.), and Builders. They assumed a kind of "supply and demand" model of OER where builders create stuff and distribute it to learners, sometimes through the mediation of facilitators (wholesalers, I guess?).

Comparing apples with oranges: online vs face-to-face learning in community colleges

This is a study that should be read by all those proposing to research the differences between online and face-to-face teaching. It is a very nice dissection of the U.S. Department of Education study:

Beginning Instructional Authoring: Getting Good Scenario Content from SMEs by Patti Shank : Learning Solutions Magazine

Beginning Instructional Authoring: Getting Good Scenario Content from SMEs by Patti Shank : Learning Solutions Magazine | Educación flexible y abierta | Scoop.it

Last month I began discussing the all-too-common difficulty that eLearning folks face of getting the right content from subject matter experts (SMEs). And as I said last month, it’s such a typical problem that it’s a bit of an inside joke in our field. Too often we ask for information about the wigglytibbit and the SME sends either 1) a PowerPoint presentation with minimal useful information or 2) a mountain of documents (which she now expects you to use, since she’s taken the time to find them).

Cultural Diversity Begins with Me! Online Class by Dr. Nellie Deutsch

Cultural Diversity Begins with Me! Online Class by Dr. Nellie Deutsch | Educación flexible y abierta | Scoop.it

Cultural diversity isn't only about how we look, behave, and the languages we speak. It is also our way of thinking, managing our time, and communicating with others. Cultures are created through communication. Embracing cultural diversity is key in team and community building. In order to develop cultural competency, we need to learn about ourselves. Self perception may impact the people we associate with socially, our values and beliefs, and how we interact with people of diverse cultures. The way we view ourselves affects our perception of others. Our identity is the frame of reference by which we experience other people. Our inner world reflects our outer. For example, self-tolerance may determine outer tolerance. In this session, participants will reflect and consider the cultural components of their identities and begin to assemble a picture of who they are.

Diving Deeply: Networks or Communities? | Powerful Learning Practice

Diving Deeply: Networks or Communities? | Powerful Learning Practice | Educación flexible y abierta | Scoop.it

Posted by Brenda Sherry on Apr 13, 2012 in Global Communities of Inquiry, Making The Shift, Personal Learning Networks

I’ve begun teaching an Additional Qualifications course for inservice teachers, about the integration of technology into their classroom practice. I’ve written about this new learning journey before, and I began revising and rethinking the course as soon as it got rolling the first time around. This is what I miss most about being a classroom teacher — the creative process involved in shaping learning environments that work!

Ten things about computer use in schools that you don't want to hear (but I'll say them anyway) | A World Bank Blog on ICT use in Education | Educación flexible y abierta | Scoop.it

At an event last year in Uruguay for policymakers from around the world, a few experts who have worked in the field of technology use in education for a long time commented that there was, in their opinion and in contrast to their experiences even a few years ago, a surprising amount of consensus among the people gathered together on what was really important, what wasn't, and on ways to proceed (and not to proceed).

EURODL | Incorporating 4MAT Model in Distance Instructional Material – An Innovative Design

EURODL | Incorporating 4MAT Model in Distance Instructional Material – An Innovative Design | Educación flexible y abierta | Scoop.it

Alexandra Nikolaou, Maria Koutsouba

In an attempt to improve the effectiveness of distance learning, the present study aims to introduce an innovative way of creating and designing distance learning instructional material incorporating Bernice McCarthy’s 4MAT Model based on learning styles. According to McCarthy’s theory, all students can learn effectively in a cycle of learning that consists of eight steps, which adapt to all learners’ learning styles. For this reason, Bernice McCarthy’s 4MAT Model is analysed, its innovative application to distance learning material is discussed, while an example of material directed to teachers for the purposes of a training course concerning the art of Drama of the kindergarten curriculum is presented.
