In most PISA-participating countries and economies, the average socio-economic background of students who attend privately managed schools is more advantaged than that of those who attend public schools. Yet in some countries, there is little difference in the socio-economic profiles between public and private schools. Why? An analysis of PISA results finds that while the prevalence of privately managed schools in a country is not related to socio-economic stratification within a school system, the level of public funding to privately managed schools is: the higher the proportion of public funding allocated to privately managed schools, the smaller the socio-economic divide between publicly and privately managed schools. This report also shows that those countries with narrow socio-economic stratification in their education systems not only maximise equity and social cohesion, but also perform well in the ....

Article about a survey of 14,000 participants in Stanford’s Andrew Ng’s course on machine learning. It should be noted that the response rate is around 14% of all those that enrolled. The most common reason was that participants were curious about the topic. Relatively small numbers said they were doing it specifically for career advancement.

Hemos llegado a la cuestión del Combate del pensamiento forzados por la propia realidad. El Combate del pensamiento no es el título sugerente de una revista en busca de temas de actualidad. No es así en absoluto. El combate del pensamiento dice antes que nada la situación a la que estamos abocados. Un mundo en crisis es, sobre todo, un mundo que no se deja pensar. El miedo y la urgencia nos instalan en una situación de amenaza de la que sólo los expertos nos pueden salvar. La crisis, ya sea económica, bélica o ambiental, parece exigir poner en manos de otros las soluciones a nuestras vidas vulnerables y precarizadas. Frente a esta lógica expropiadora, que nos reduce a espectadores de nuestra propia impotencia, proponemos la necesidad de conquistar espacios de pensamiento como condición para empezar a tomar el mundo en nuestras manos.

En este sentido, el combate del pensamiento es también una necesidad. La necesidad de intervenir en la batalla en la que se decide quién y cómo construye la realidad. Se trata de una intervención práctica en la que realmente nos va la vida. La globalización neoliberal – la movilización global - ha sido el modo victorioso de construcción de la realidad. La verdad del mundo, la verdad que organiza el mundo, es la verdad del capital. El combate del pensamiento se inicia con una crítica a esta verdad triunfadora lo que requiere imponer el problema del pensamiento. Imponer el problema del pensamiento no es otra cosa que aprehender el pensamiento mismo como problema. No se trata de un juego de palabras.
