Last few days of the survey - I will be eternally grateful to everyone who supports this research :-)
The survey is open to people in higher education institutions everywhere. It aims to find out what the perceptions are about the OER university concept, and also to generate a benchmarking tool for institutions to check their compatibility with the OERu concept. Don't worry if you don't know much about the OERu - the questions are more about open practices at your own institution. (But if you do want some background info, have a look at http://wikieducator.org/OERu) Via Gabi Witthaus

“What’s the key to good instructional design for mobile learning?” Mobile devices are different from desktop and laptop computers, offering different opportunities for supporting learning and performance. Karen Hyder and Mike Sloat asked Jeff Tillett for some insight into designing instruction for mobile delivery.
By Marc Rosenberg:
"10 important implications and recommendations arise for training managers and designers: 1. One size does not fit all. A consistent instructional strategy across the differing capabilities of a worker population may be a mistake. Via Paulo Simões
There are lots of “learning specialists” in organizations and they work for variously named departments. As learning specialists, I assume they are supporting workplace learning, so let me ask:

Superb essay by Louis Soares from the Center for American Progress and Amy Ostrom from Arizona State University:
A new “College as a Service” (CaaS) logic can help reframe a substantive debate that pulls together what seem to be very disparate strands of thinking regarding practices and policy. CaaS provides a systemic way of thinking about nettlesome challenges such as how a student’s customer profile of preferences, needs and active participation leads to student success; how information yields accountability; and how self-service can improve higher education. Mobile learning (or mlearning) is probably a hot topic of discussion in your organization right now.
It’s all about networks. Understanding networks that is. This is the shift our organizations, institutions, and society must make in order to thrive in an always-on, interconnected world.

by Justin Marquis Ph.D. There is a tremendous amount of soul-searching going on in K-12 and higher education. New education saviors appear almost daily touting free online options that largely take both the teacher and active learning out of the equation. While initiatives like Coursera, MITx, the Khan Academy, Udacity, and the just announced Edx deserve credit for making educational resources available for free globally, none of these efforts really engages learners in ways...

May 19, 2012 - by Tom Vander Ark This week was the 58th anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court ruling in Brown v. Board of Education, striking down racial segregation in public schools. White flight has left many urban schools segregated. Even worse, the quality of education in America remains highly correlated to neighborhood income levels. It is obvious that the provision of educational services in this country is far from equal. Education remains the most pressing civil rights issue of our time.
Innovative design crosses over all aspects of education. The American Society for Innovation Design in Education, or ASIDE, seeks to infuse curriculum with new approaches to teaching and thinking.
