A Birds-Eye Overview of DRC+

A Birds-Eye Overview of DRC+ | Fledgling yet Burgeoning! Infographics Conquest :D | Scoop.it

RC (Design Rule Constraints) are the fundamental principles in constraining VLSI (Very Large Scale Integration) circuit designs to standardized physical and electrical manufacturability criterion.

Today's component miniaturization and density technologies require continual reassessment of best practice applications to keep design geometries aligned with realistic manufacturing capabilities.

Two-dimensional DRC layout patterns may prove to be mathematically and layout rules compliant.

But, when they are applied at the extremes of the manufacturing process tolerances, lithographic printability issues still arise.

DRC+ is a new methodology that can be implemented in identifying the issues around complex process methods....

Use big data wisely and it can provide big insights

Use big data wisely and it can provide big insights | Fledgling yet Burgeoning! Infographics Conquest :D | Scoop.it

Data science has great promise but it requires teamwork and local expertise to succeed, says Robert Kirkpatrick.

Speed read
  • The Global Pulse initiative is using big data to assess attitudes and trends

  • Social media analysis can reveal food price indicators, perceptions and the results of advocacy efforts

  • But local knowledge is needed to correctly interpret data patterns

.

.

.

Big data, and the art of data science, offer new options in the policymaking toolkit. Data science is not a quick, technology-based solution, however.

It takes collaboration, intuition and cultural insight. To be able to correctly interpret patterns in big data that are relevant to human development requires a nuanced understanding of local contexts, and therefore it is beneficial to do the analysis close to where the development needs are.

"We at Global Pulse are encouraged by the emerging practice of applying data science to development, but urge newcomers to the field to remember the importance of involving local partners and building the capacity to do data science from the ground up..."

“The development community can embrace the craft of ‘data science’ to enhance evidence-based decision-making.”

It's the age of Big Data. But what, exactly, do we do with all this information? Ways to explore practical, ethical -- and spectacularly visual -- ways to understand near-infinite data.

David McCandless turns complex data sets (like worldwide military spending, media buzz, Facebook status updates) into beautiful, simple diagrams that tease out unseen patterns and connections.

Good design, he suggests, is the best way to navigate information glut -- and it may just change the way we see the world.

About David McCandless

David draws beautiful conclusions from complex datasets -- thus revealing unexpected insights into our world...

Good Insight: An Amazing Timeline Chronicling The History of Social Media | Fledgling yet Burgeoning! Infographics Conquest :D | Scoop.it

Web 2.0 technologies which have given rise to such popular  platforms have definitely played a major role in the popularization of social media among ordinary people , however , the real emergence of social media dates back to the 60s of the last century.

The start was with the appearance of CompuServe in 1969 and then followed by the emergence of the email service in 1971... to Pinterest in 2010...

The visual below created by Karim Benyagoub captures some of the major historical developments of social media throughout the years till the present moment .

Everyday leadership also means being aware of the technology that enhances how we influence people.  According to this infographic, social media has been around since 1969.  I would posit that social media has been around since the printing press was invented.  Although early media was not interactive, it accelerated communications and person-to-person interaction.  We're social beings and if we expand our thinking, even cave art was social media.  As Solomon said, there's nothing new under the sun.  We have innovations and inventions, but the foundational activity is communication that moves us from caves to condos and beyond.

Emma Stutzman's curator insight, January 3, 11:03 AM

This picture shows how social media has developed over the years. It mentions how many people thought that social media was started with facebook, when in reality it was really started by other projects that you can see above. This picture/concept shows the differences between which sites took off and which didn't, depending on our cultural preferences.

2013 Search Engine Ranking Factors Survey & Correlation Data ✫ | Fledgling yet Burgeoning! Infographics Conquest :D | Scoop.it

Moz’s Search Engine Ranking Factors uses correlation and survey data from over 100 search engine professionals to investigate the factors associated with search engine visibility.

Every two years, Moz surveys the opinions of dozens of the world's brightest search marketers and runs correlation studies to better understand the workings of search engine algorithms. We gather this data to gain insight into the factors that may help—or hurt—a website's visibility in search engines.

Note that these factors are not "proof" of what search engines use to rank websites, but simply show the characteristics of web pages that tend to rank higher.

This year, Moz surveyed over 120 leading search marketers who provided expert opinions on over 80 ranking factors.

Below we present the results of our 2013 Correlation Study. Select one of the 10 categories at the top of the chart to focus on those characteristics.

Want to see the impact Google's algorithm changes have had on SEO over the years? Check out this infographic we created with Moz.

In the beginning, Google's search engine really wasn't all that good. This was back in the late 90s/early 00s, when search engines were little more than keyword-matching and link-counting machines.

Ranking high in search results could be accomplished by essentially using a simple, two-step procedure:

  • Step 1: Stuff your keyword phrase into your page/website as many times as possible.
  • Step 2: Get as many gosh-darn inbound links as you possibly could.

The SunGrazer Comet ISON is visible now.. Here you are A Timeline of this Comet's 'Dangerous' Journey

The SunGrazer Comet ISON is visible now.. Here you are A Timeline of this Comet's 'Dangerous' Journey | Fledgling yet Burgeoning! Infographics Conquest :D | Scoop.it

A comet’s journey through the solar system is perilous and violent. A giant ejection of solar material from the sun could rip its tail off.

Before it reaches Mars -- at some 230 million miles away from the sun -- the radiation of the sun begins to boil its water, the first step toward breaking apart.

And, if it survives all this, the intense radiation and pressure as it flies near the surface of the sun could destroy it altogether.

Predicted hour-by-hour position of Comet ISON in various instruments on one of NASA’s Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory spacecraft between 1 a.m. EST on Nov. 26, 2013, and 7 p.m. EST on Nov. 29, 2013. The blue field of view is from the outer coronagraph and green from the inner coronagraph. Image Credit: NASA/STEREO/Goddard Space Flight Center

Right now, Comet ISON is making that journey.

It began its trip from the Oort cloud region of our solar system and is now travelling toward the sun.

The comet will reach its closest approach to the sun on Thanksgiving Day -- Nov. 28, 2013 -- skimming just 730,000 miles above the sun’s surface.

If it comes around the sun without breaking up, the comet will be visible in the Northern Hemisphere with the naked eye, and from what we see now, ISON is predicted to be a particularly bright and beautiful comet.

Cataloged as C/2012 S1, Comet ISON was first spotted 585 million miles away in September 2012.

This is its very first trip around the sun, which means it is still made of pristine matter from the earliest days of the solar system’s formation, its top layers never having been lost by a trip near the sun.

Scientists will point as many ground-based observatories as they can and at least 15 space-based assets towards the comet along the way, in order to learn more about this time capsule from when the solar system first formed.

Even if the comet does not survive, tracking its journey will help scientists understand what the comet is made of, how it reacts to its environment, and what this explains about the origins of the solar system.

Closer to the sun, watching how the comet and its tail interact with the vast solar atmosphere can teach scientists more about the sun itself.

NASA has initiated a Comet ISON Observing Campaign to facilitate a massive global observation campaign incorporating both space-based and ground-based telescopes and encouraging citizen scientists and both professional and amateur astronomers to participate.

▬ How it Works:

TimelineJS is an open-source tool that enables anyone to build visually, rich, interactive timelines.

Beginners can create a timeline using nothing more than a Google spreadsheet. Experts can use their JSON skills to create custom installations, while keeping TimelineJS's core look and functionality.

▬ Sources:

It can pull in media from a variety of sources and has built-in support for Twitter, Flickr, Google Maps, YouTube, Vimeo, Vine, Dailymotion, Wikipedia, SoundCloud and more.

▬ Tips & tricksKeep:

it short, and write each event as a part of a larger narrative.Pick stories that have a strong chronological narrative.

It does not work well for stories that need to jump around in the timeline.Include events that build up to major occurrences — not just the major events.

▬ Make a Timeline:

Timeline JS works on any site or blog.

Make your own in four easy steps.

Create your spreadsheet:

Build a new Google Spreadsheet using our template.

Drop dates, text and links to media into the appropriate columns.

Note: Don't change the column headers, don't remove any columns, and don't leave any blank rows in your spreadsheet.

Google Spreadsheet Template

Publish to the web Copy/paste spreadsheet URL into the generator box

Google Spreadsheet URL

Embed the code into your website

Grab the embed code and paste it on your site where you want your TimelineJS to appear (just like a YouTube video).

Enjoy :D
