Good point Lucy! For me the interest is for language learners - if they use this site, slowly they build up their confidence and realize that yes, they can read the abstracts instead :-) reading is always good practice. For academics, it is likely that this has little interest but for learners, it's great as another activity.
Lucy Georges's comment, November 28, 2012 7:54 AM
Thanks for the reply. Indeed, some of my more advanced students might like to have a go at summarizing one or two articles. I'll bookmark it.
Ana Cristina Pratas's comment, November 28, 2012 8:27 AM
Hi Lucy, glad that you may take the site into consideration and try it out with your students. Sometimes I collect activities/tasks/sites which work well with some students but not necessarily with all. On the other hand, I prefer to be able to pull up sites like these and see how learners react/deal with the tasks. Always a challenge, always a surprise :-)

Supporting New Teachers to Make Global Connections | Edutopia

Supporting New Teachers to Make Global Connections | Edutopia | 21st Century technological pedagogy..... | Scoop.it

By Michele L. Halken

"New teachers are excited and brimming with ideas to make their classrooms hotbeds of learning, understanding and collaboration. In addition to their focus on creating a classroom where students are engaged and think both critically and creatively, teachers must address Common Core Learning Standards, content area standards and technology initiatives. Still, teachers want to do more: make global connections and work collaboratively with a classroom on the other side of the world, since creating digital citizens with a global consciousness is essential for success in the world today and tomorrow.

"A global collaboration project doesn't just happen overnight. Like any successful project, it requires planning, preparation, connecting and communicating.

"Here are three steps teachers can follow to expand the walls of their classrooms, make connections and participate in projects."

Lynn Novak's curator insight, November 19, 2013 10:15 AM

Creating global consciousness among middle school students can be aided by increasing the number of global connections they have in an educational environment with teacher support.
