I just have to post this image since well, it was a first for me actually. I have never once actually built the SDK using the build file when it was opensource at Adobe. I was just another user downloading new versions and updates. Delete the scoop?

Logo Contest On the 31th of December, 2011, the Apache Software Foundation has accepted the Flex SDK into incubation. Apache Flex is now a community project managed by Apache (ASF). The migration from Adobe to Apache involves a re-branding and you can contribute by proposing the new Apache Flex logo. Delete the scoop?

I really think what I am doing here is healthy for the Apache Flex community that reads it. I have for the most part tried to keep opinions out of these summaries, not always. Delete the scoop?

The second installment of flex-dev@apache.org summaries. I think I will write these as long as I have time and the community seems interested in a quick glance at something you might otherwise need to be completely involved in to get the full gist.

The discussion about the Apache Flex proposal is now in full swing on the Apache Software Foundation Incubator mailinglist. I have to say its been great getting some outside perspective and it seems to generally be very positive and constructive.

… Could have been the title of this post 3 months ago. Given the recent layoffs and announcements in the past few weeks, it may seem short sighted to be overly excited faced with this news today.

Changes can often be uncomfortable, but what does Adobe Flex migrating to the open source Apache Foundation mean from a historical view? Let’s look at some commercial projects and their migration to open source.

What a week! Adobe made a lot of announcements which raised a lot of questions on the web, and led to a lot of WTF (which meant”What The Flex” right?). I feel that since MAX, the Flex community was expecting some clarification about the future of Flex.
// A little quote, which is, according to me, pretty hopeful : [[Don’t worry, if HTML5 becomes the standard for RIA apps, then the best HTML5 RIA developers of tomorrow will be today’s Flex developers. Why? Because RIA development is not just a matter of language. RIA developers have a lot of specific skills (design awareness, client-side architectures, service exposure architecture, user-experience, mobile applications conception and optimization to name a few).]] //

It’s been quite the roller coaster in the Flex world these past few months to say the least! Now seemed like a good time for an update on the latest status of things.

Well just a quick note to those that are following the direction of Flex, now ApacheFlex podling. I think an important thought we should be thinking about now is how can the SDK and tools be transformed into something that does something new. This thought is for the future and needs to stay in sight if the SDK and tools are to evolve with the changing times.

The vote on the Apache Flex incubator proposal is now open and in 72 hours we will know the result. The vote on adding the additional mentors to the Apache Incubator PMC has not concluded but they have provisionally been added to the proposal.

Adobe has submitted a proposal to accept their Cindyflexingrella to a very reputable orphanage: Apache Software Foundation. Overall, this can be a great news for the Flex community, which as opposed to Adobe, can afford to allocate enough of strong software engineers to make this framework flourish.

Today, the incubator proposal for Flex went out on Apache Incubator wiki and mailing lists. This a a great move to get the Flex open source technologies into and driven by the community. So starting now is your chance to comment and support the creation of Apache Flex.

I continue to hear from recruiters looking for senior Flex and Flash developers. The recruiters represent clients who are looking for engineers, trainers, and architects to work on new projects as well as existing applications. So perhaps you will understand when I say that I’m still not convinced that Flash is dead.
// Well, here in france, every flash jobs have turned into front web development jobs... //
