FlexMonkey: Vector Cruncher - Aggregate Functions using ActionScript Workers

I've used ActionScript Workers a lot over the last year for funky stuff like sound synthesis, reaction diffusion and swarm chemistry simulations. Workers are virtual instances of the Flash runtime that allow code to run in the background while keeping the user interface responsive. They've allowed me to run crazily long loops calculating, for example, hundreds of thousands of particle interactions per frame, while the user can happily interact with the interface.

FlexMonkey: More Morphogenesis with Swarm Chemistry with ActionScript Workers & Feathers UI

I've been experimenting with Hiroki Sayama's Swarm Chemistry recently and have just wrapped up the first iteration of a Flash (using ActionScript Workers) and Feathers based application based on his work.

FlexMonkey: ActionScript Workers Now Work Under Chrome/PPAPI

I did a lot of tinkering with ActionScript Workers towards the end of last year. However, because I'd swapped out the PPAPI Flash Player in Google Chrome, I was oblivious to the fact that Workers weren't supported under PPAPI. Since I spend my working days bemoaning browser fragmentation with HTML and JavaScript and more than half my blog visitors use Chrome, I was pretty peeved.

FlexMonkey: More Experiments with Concurrent Fluid Dynamics & Box2D Physics

I've done a little more tweaking with last week's experiment running concurrent fluid dynamics and rigid body physics with ActionScript Workers. I've used a technique based on the threshold() method in BitmapData class to simulate metaballs - these are managed by Box2D and act as sources to my fluid dynamics ActionScript Worker.

FlexMonkey: Mutually Gravitationally Attractive Particles in Flex with ActionScript Workers

My tinkering with ActionScript workers continues with the implementation of a simple particle system with mutual gravitational attraction. Mutual gravitation is computationally expensive because, in a naïve implementation like mine, every particle needs to reference every other in each simulation step. There are techniques such as neighbour searching to optimise this, but I'm idea rich and time poor, so I haven't implemented any proper optimisations.

FlexMonkey: Trigonometric Gray Scott Reaction Diffusion (with ActionScript Workers)

I've played with the Gray Scott Model a lot over the last year, but I've never been bold enough to actually tinker with the equations themselves.

FlexMonkey: Advection Swarm Chemistry with ActionScript Workers & Feathers UI

Here's an extension to my recent implementation of Hiroki Sayama's Swarm Chemistry: I've plugged in a fluid dynamics solver (a worker used in my Reaction Diffusion Advection experiment) so that particles (swarm members) radiate heat and add to the CFD density field which then feeds back velocities to the swarm chemistry model.

Isolates: how to work with multithreading in Dart

Isolates: how to work with multithreading in Dart | Everything about Flash | Scoop.it
Here we are again with another topic about Dart language, first of all I'd like to start this article with an off-topic. I joined to FluentJS in San Francisco few weeks ago, an event organize by O'...
Nicolas Bousquet's insight:

Yeah, it's Dart, not AS. I kinda know. But Dart is one of the thing you should look into if you want to keep being a programmer in a couple years. Actionscript will go down the drain. Remember to curse Adobe at least once a day. And Steve Jobs as much as you fucking want.

FlexMonkey: More Flex Morphogenesis: Gray Scott with ActionScript Workers

I've played with reaction-diffusion simulations in the past, but with all the recent fun and games I've been having with ActionScript Workers, I thought it would be nice to revisit them. While pottering around the internet, I came across a nice Java implementation of the Gray Scott model at toxiclibs.

FlexMonkey: Concurrent Fluid Dynamics and Box2D Physics with ActionScript Workers

Here's another quick and dirty experiment with ActionScript Workers: I've taken two fairly meaty tasks: computational fluid dynamics and rigid body physics and created separate ActionScript Workers for each.

FlexMonkey: Optimising ActionScript Worker Particle System with Bin-Lattice Spatial Subdivision

In my last post looking at particle systems using ActionScript Workers, I mentioned the lack of any neighbour searching algorithm. So, I thought it would be interesting to look at that code and implement a spatial subdivision optimisation.

FlexMonkey: Multi Threaded Sound Synthesis in Flex with AS Workers

I've had a few enquiries after the source code for my Node Editor Tone Generator from last year. The code was (and still is) a little ropey - some of it dates back over two years - however after a recent request, I agreed to send it out.
