Don’t beat yourself up, slow progress is good | Fat to Fantastic

AmazingPeople's insight:

Three weeks on from making new year resolutions, was one of yours to lose the fat?

I always think January is a very hard time to make a change.  Dark nights and cold  weather doesn’t encourage us to go out and when we have really cold snaps like now we want to eat stodge.

But I don’t think we should beat ourselves up for slow progress, or give up and wait till Easter.

I also think we should embrace the slow approach to losing weight. It’s always a lovely feeling to get a big weight loss but mainly a big weight loss is our body adjusting to holding too much water and we should feel really pleased for a 1 pound weight loss. We’ve got 9 and a half weeks till Easter, so a pound a week can make a substantial difference by then – a 10 pound loss!

" Use moderate to heavy weights with fewer repetitions (use a weight you can lift 6 to 8 times before reaching failure instead of one you can lift 12 or 15)" This post helped me learn that I should rather use heavy weights and lift a few times, rather than light weights and lift more times. Because when I usually work out I thought that they more times you lift the better.

The occasional diet or sugar-sweetened beverage probably isn’t going to hurt you, but like many processed foods these beverages can be addicting, leaving us wanting more and more every day. If you’re a regular soda dinker, maybe you should consider cutting back for the sake of your health. As I found myself after  it’s never too late.

Alex Warner's curator insight, April 10, 2013 11:58 AM

Determined athletes and people doing physical training don't or should drink these sodas. They are proven to be bad in many different ways when trying to stay healthy. First, these sodas effect your performance physically. Soda dehydrates you and can cause some extreme cramping and will significantly reduce maximum performance. With sodas many bad results and hardly any beneifial value to your body, a serious reconsideration of drink these sodas may be needed to reach your top performance.
