Members of the quasi-religious group, Westboro Baptist Church, planned to gather in Connecticut to protest the funeral of Newtown, Conn., shooting victim Principal Dawn Hochsprung.

The Westboro Baptist Church had planned to go to Newtown's funeral for the Principal Dawn G shot in the school shooting on December 14, 2012. Another group actually came and protested outside of the funeral.

A high school girl named Bridget Mergens was trying to start a Christian club at her school, she was denied the request, she filed a suit against it. I think that she has the right to start a Christian club and I think that any religion should have the right to have a club at the school because of the right to meet in a public place with the support of their first amendment right to assemble.

The First Amendment Allows Freedom of Assembly

These are some quotes explaining different ways the first amendment protects your right to assemble. You can have a public and private meetings under this amendment. And everyone is protected by this right, for good or bad reasons. Even if it is a hate or violent group they are still protected by their First Amendment right to assemble.

Freedom of assembly gives you the right to hold public meetings without the interference from the government. An american Nazi group was requesting to demonstrate in a Jewish community. Many people were questioning the first amendment right they had to come and demonstrate in a Jewish community, preaching hate and violence. I think that they have the right because the constitution but I do not think it is right. Everyone has the right to assemble and you cannot just take it away because the right is in a negitave way.
