MoMA | Back to School: A Taste of Finland

MoMA | Back to School: A Taste of Finland | #finnedchat | Scoop.it

The most regulated aspect of many children’s everyday relationship with food is school lunch, and this is exactly the subject of Back to School: A Taste of Finland. In this series, a collaboration between the exhibition curators, MoMA’s Cafe 2, and the Consulate General of Finland, adults are invited to participate in a meal inspired by the koululounas (school lunches) of Finland, a country consistently recognized for excelling in all aspects of public education. According to its National Board of Education, Finland was the first country in the world to serve free, regulated school meals to children on a large scale, starting in 1948. Today, balanced meals of local and inexpensive ingredients provide both energy and educational value.

Curate And Monetize Your Best Audio And Video Contents With Pivotshare | #finnedchat | Scoop.it

Robin Good: Pivotshare is a web platform which allows you to create a branded web site where you can curate, promote and sell your best digital media video and audio files.

The service accepts .mp4, .mov, swf, .flv, .avi and .mp3 files for upload and it lets you set the price and the business model (subscription or pay-per-view or a combination of both) that you want to use.

On Pivotshare you can brand your channel with your logo and customize its look and feel, and you can also "bookmark" specific "spots" inside your audio and video content.

Content on Pivotshare is accessible by both desktop computers as well by smartphone and tablet devices and it has the ability to memorize, for the user, where a sesson is left, so that it can be picked up next time he logs in.

Find and Share Contextual Info While You Videoconference with Mindmeld (iPad)

Robin Good: Mindmeld is an upcoming iPad app which allows you to conference in real-time with other people with video and audio, and to find relevant related information about the things that are being mentioned in your talk.

As you are video-conferencing you can tap a light bulb icon which powers a background search on the terms being mentioned in your conversation. By sliding the conferencing pane to the left, you can then reveal a information page that lists both the key terms being mentioned, as well as related information pins, on the very topics being identified.

You can also type in manually any term or topic you would like to see more info on, and immediately share any relevant info block with everyone else in the meeting.

"MindMeld is an iPad app (for now) that uses Facebook’s open graph and identity to help create quick audio or video conferences. Add a few people and start talking. But here is where things get interesting: As you speak (or other participants speak), the app listens and starts surfacing information pertaining to what you are talking about."

Impressive.

Teach-it-yourself Finnish education - thisisFINLAND: Life & society: Education | #finnedchat | Scoop.it

Play the ukulele, repair your bike, manage global crises, discover the usefulness of doing things wrong, or make tortillas: An event run by think tank Demos Helsinki includes dozens of peer-learning workshops, part of a growing trend towards education with a do-it-yourself twist.

Finland is widely known for its successful education system, which repeatedly wins top marks in international surveys and global comparisons. How does this dovetail with a workshop called “The Basics of Playing Ukulele,” held recently at one of the country’s premiere rock festivals?
