A large number of Libyan architects have been trained with Finnish help.
Three specialists in the construction business tell about their experiences in Libya from the late 1970s to the early 1990s.

Villa Q, Finland by Avanto Architects / Ville Hara and Anu Puustinen | Architecture Lab

Villa Q, Finland by Avanto Architects / Ville Hara and Anu Puustinen | Architecture Lab | Finland | Scoop.it
Project Description:
The modern city villa is located in North Helsinki, in an area characterized by old wooden villas. The sculptural form is motivated by the dramatic setting: the summit of a rocky hill. The parallellogram-shape of the main building creates sunny courtyards both to the south and the west. The facades are clad in broad boards painted grey. The concrete fireplace in the centre of the building functions as a traditional heart, radiating and sustaining warmth. The ground floor with long views to the valley contains living spaces, the bedrooms and the bathrooms are located on the first floor. The atelier that forms the courtyard wing of the building can be used as a subsidiary apartment.

British architect pleads: “Don’t spoil Helsinki!”

British architect pleads: “Don’t spoil Helsinki!” | Finland | Scoop.it
“Where am I”, asks British architecture critic Jonathan Glancey, 51, spreading his arms theatrically inside the Kamppi Center shopping mall in the centre of Helsinki.
“Am I in Shanghai? Or Hamburg? Or America?”

“I love Finnish architecture - especially when I’m attacking it.”

Glancey says that he evaluates architecture everywhere on the same basis.
“My mission is that every city, both London and Helsinki, should have its own identity.”
“I know quite well that this is a tough battle in a country where the pace of globalisation is accelerating all the time.”
He asks that we do not turn Helsinki in to a city like all the others in the world.
“Please, don’t ruin Helsinki!”

Helsinki For Urban Travelers: 293rd issue: A new chapel

Helsinki For Urban Travelers: 293rd issue: A new chapel | Finland | Scoop.it
I saw how this new chapel is going to look like and I loved it! For me, personally, this whole chapel thing is not important, because I don't even pay "church tax" (=in Finland if you "belong to church" you pay tax for this as well), but it represents Finnish design with a very nice way.

The main material is going to be something very typical - wood. For it's shape this new chapel reminds slighly Kirnu, which was Finlands pavilion in Shanghai World Expo and was designed by JKMM Architects. This chapel is designed by K2S architects.
