Arctic Fringe, Northern Lights, and Finnish Romance | Hustle to Paradise

Arctic Fringe, Northern Lights, and Finnish Romance http://t.co/j6BnAJyq

"My Romance in Finland

About a month later, I was in Helsinki, Finland. I met a beautiful girl named Milla.

When she found out that I had never been to a sauna, she demanded I meet her in her small hometown in the middle of the Lake District in Finland. Traditional Finnish Saunas are very important in Finnish culture.

Well a few days later I met her in her hometown. We drove to a lake together, and got out of the car. She approached an old, overturned rowboat. “Can you help me flip it?” she must have noticed the confused look on my face because she smiled and said, “We have to row there...”

Nokia World convention drastically cut back in scope: Bad sign for the company?

Diehard Nokia fans that are planning to attend the Nokia World convention in Helsinki, Finland, and have already made arrangements for travel and lodging for the event on September 25-26 will be disappointed to hear that the date of the meeting has changed, as well as the format.

Invitation only
This year’s Nokia World will not be a single large-scale convention as in the past, but will take place at several smaller personal demonstrations during the dates of September 5-6.

In addition, Nokia World is by “invitation only” and will be closed to the general public.

Finland

With respect to geography and situation of the country, there are several well-differentiated regions not only for the climate but also for the food and culture. Climatic differences between seasons are quite important in the northern regions.

Well known for its picturesque beauty, Finland always attracts thousands of people, especially those who are in love with “island vacation.” Many people might think there are basically two places to explore in Finland, Lapland and capital Helsinki, while Finland is never limited to those two places. It goes beyond them — Aland Islands.

'Finnishing schools' – is England ready for equity?

Tony Parkin gets the lowdown on Finland's PISA success – and pedagogy really does trump technology

Pasi Salhberg: sharing keys to Finland's success

A focus on equity in education, not on achievement , is the key policy driver that has taken Finland to the heights of the OECD PISA tables. And, ironically, in the land of Nokia and innovation, the use of classroom technology may not have been of particular value in helping the shift to equity.

Diane, A Shaded View on Fashion: FIRST TIME IN HELSINKI - TEXT BY PHILIPPE POURHASHEMI

Dear Shaded Viewers,

This is my first trip to Finland and I arrived yesterday afternoon. The city is beautiful and the mood seems relaxed. Helsinki is this year's World Design Capital and several fashion events have been organized to showcase what Finnish designers and companies have to offer. I'm staying at Hotel Fabian, which is stylish and comfortable. My room feels quite Scandinavian and luxurious.

I will soon report on a visit to Marimekko's headquarters, which I really enjoyed. Helsinki comes across as a peaceful and innovative place, where creativity and imagination are highly valued. Best, Philippe http://wdchelsinki2012.fi/en

Mountaineer Dies After 2,000 Foot Fall Down Denali | alaskapublic.org

A Finnish man died from injuries he received Wednesday skiing down Mount McKinley in Denali National Park. Ilkka Uusitalo fell while on the area known as the Orient Express – a 40-45 degree slope just below the 18,000 foot level. Maureen McLaughlin, Public Information Officer for the Talkeetna Ranger Station says his fall ended about 2,000 feet lower at the bottom of a 60 foot crevasse.

McLaughlin says Uusitalo was part of a team with a lot of experience in ski descents in Europe.

National Park Rangers arrived on the scene about an hour after the fall and transported his body to Talkeetna. The accident is the second fatality on Denali this season.
